During today’s reading of I Cor. 12: 4-11 the word in English is produces. Is this word in the Greek related to “karpos” of Galatians, that is, the fruits of the Holy Spirit?

Jim. Which specific verse are you referring to and which Bible is the reading from?

The verse from I Cor. 12: 4-11 is at the Mass yesterday, Sunday, January 7, 2010. I assume that it is the NAB.

The other verse is Galatians 5: 22. As far as I know, the word fruit is in most if not all translations.

Produces is in I Cor 12: 4-11, I believe it is in verse 5 and 11. I do not have any books with me.

I think I know what you are asking. In the English, fruit and produce are in the same place in the grocery store, they are similar.

That place in 1Cor is not using the Greek word for fruit. It is based a word for doing work, effecting some effect. The underlying Greek word is energeo. (I’m thinking of the second half of the verse 1cor12:6.)

You asked about the LXX. Perhaps try Proverbs 21:6 for an appearance of some form of energeo. I’m not sure if that can be looked up with an online engine or not.
