Was the filioque an established truth before the year 500 ?However for the Pope to speak infallibly it has ONLY to be a Teaching that conforms to the Ordinary Magisterium’s Sacred Tradition, and be on either Faith or Morals.; which is to say that it is NOT a NEW teaching; but a clarification of an established TRUTH already defined.
Um, because it’s a discussion board and this is a legitimate apologetics discussion topic? Why are you creating a thread like this?
I don’t know which Popes you’re referring to that you think allowed themselves to be “worshipped,” Mack26. But Pope Francis, the current Pope, does not allow himself to be worshipped by anyone. Bowing before him is a sign of respect just as bowing before the Queen of England if you were blessed with the honor of meeting her is.That main reasons as ive researched Catholicism lately is that the Pope allows himself to be worshipped as if he is above others and in perfection, there are many pictures displaying people bowing down to him, or kissing his hand. He doesn’t reject this but instead accepts it, even though we are to bow to no-one but God. I also do not agree with the prayers to saints, it is very strong in Catholicism and I feel there is more importance placed on that then building a true relationship with Christ through prayer. Overall, as I’ve stated in another forum I believe the Catholic church leans heavily on tradition and doctrine as a first resource and less on the Bible which I believe to be the true and full Word of God- our FIRST resource for guidance along with prayer to Christ . Those are just my thoughts, hope everybody has a great and safe weekend!
My mother was a Protestant most of her life. She attended the churches of her parents but considered herself more Methodist (her mother’s church) than Church Of Christ (her father’s church). She married my (then) Roman Catholic father (who later converted to Charismatic Catholic) and agreed to raise any children they had Catholic. She kept that promise too even tho we children also later attended Protestant churches after moving to the South.I could NEVER be a Catholic Because?
Let us allow the Holy Spirit to guide this discussion

You’re very welcome, JetteZ.What a lovely story, thank you for sharing it.
I respectfully disagree about the “women priests.” That cannot and will not change.I was born in a Catholic family and other Christian faith were (and are) referred to as Protestant. My take is that the Catholic faith can change in some respects but it takes time. For example, women priests, married priests, permission to divorce, etc. When I was still at home as a youngster, masses were said in Latin only. Anyway my point is I’m glad I’m Catholic and I can be patient knowing that it is the original Christian church. And I don’t have a problem with the infallibility of the Pope because he in infallible only in a restricted sense. Faith is the key to a lot of things.
Most of east Asian Christians also bow to one another, especially priests, ministers and those in authority, they do it for the same reason, to show respect. We don’t have to bow or show respect in that exact way, but we choose to.there are many pictures displaying people bowing down to him, or kissing his hand. He doesn’t reject this but instead accepts it, even though we are to bow to no-one but God.
Canaanite paganism and Judiasm are miles apart, and anyhow even if they were one from the other (which it’s not) it’s a genetic fallacy against it being a true (though incomplete) religion.Because I have no reason to believe that any religion is correct, and I believe the evidence shows that the lineage of Christianity trails back to Judaism, which trails back to Canaanite paganism.
