I destroy Rosaries

Well, I’ve always been a bit tomboyish.

My real name does happen to be Lily - but a delicate, flowerlike specimen of femininity I ain’t :nope:

Hmm … I’ll have to look it up and find out if there are any patron saints of demolition experts (wouldn’t surprise me if St Barbara was … I seem to recall hearing something of the kind.)

Well, I’m a soon-to-be (please God!) lawyer, so same here. Lucky for both of us 😛

I actually DO have and use a treasured 20+ year old indestructo-Rosary. A sturdy wooden one that is a souvenir of a visit by JP2 to Australia. As well as another one of knotted pink twine with a plastic crucifix. Which is great - it’s even washable, which is not a bad thing. Sometimes I wear it around the house and it’s surprising how grubby they can get from contact with your neck and hands.
 
Someone beat me to it!😦 I was going to suggest a ring rosary, such as the one I was given when I visited a meeting of CBSI (Catholic Boy Scout of Ireland) some 40 years ago. It had never tangled, nor broken:D.
I also still have the silver and wooden bead rosary given me by my godfather before I went into the Army. It is in good shape, but the leather carrying pouches don’t last much more than about 20 years;).

Why are they so delicate? I break everyone I have had. I keep them in my pocket and they invariably fall apart. I don’t want to carry one in a little box as that is cumbersome. The longest lasting one I ever had was a very plain wooden one with thickish chord keeping it together but, alas, I lost that one.

On a side note I tend to be hard on most things I own. A combination of clumsiness and inattention.

We have many broken rosaries at my house also. Just waiting to be repaired. Can’t throw 'em away. Stuff happens. A good reason to get another one. I must admit your teaser line had me wondering where the post would go. Glad to see that I am not the only one with a basketfull of rosaries.

The knotted nylon twine rosaries are the most durable for pockets. Mine have gone through the washer and come out just fine. You can get one from www.rosaryarmy.com You can also learn how to make them and give them away 👍

The only breakable part on a Rosary Army rosary is the jump ring that attaqches the crucifix…and if the rosary is made with a “split ring” (like a mini-key ring), even** that** becomes unbreakable.
They are super-strong, & (I believe), perfectly beautiful. The only “cost” is a promise to pray for Rosary Army’s apostolate of giving a rosary to all who all who request them.
 
PS: The way I found out that jump rings are breakable was by :eek:slamming one in the screen door.😦

I don’t use the beads when I pray while driving–I have a system with my fingers which works pretty well. But other than that, it’s pretty handy to have a rosary. I have used rosary rings when walking and that works well for me.

How about a knotted rosary with wooden beads? That would be for carrying around, and at home you could have a nice rosary with metal and good beads. We probably have 3 or 4 rosaries for each member of my family, in between all the plastic ones I bought for them when they were little (now *those *are indestructable!), and gifts for First Holy Communion.
 
I have a similar problem with Scapulars. I cannot wear one for even one week without having a bunch of knots in it to repair cause I invariably end up breaking it.
I have resorted to just carrying the broken scapular in my pocket with me. 😃
Does anyone know of a better solution?

I have seen “scapular medals” … actual metal jewelry instead of fabric.

I wonder if there’s a patron saint for destructive natural forces like me? 🤷

I finally bought a scapular medal from the local Catholic bookstore. The box will say Scapular Medal on it. The problem with mine was that the spring ring was not good and I had to have it replaced. Then I also had the chain lengthened so it would not easily fall out of my shirt while doing Pilates – and I can now slip it off over my head (I take it off only for bathing). But be aware; if you decide to do this, it’ll cost you since the chain is satinless steel (sturdy, but more costly).

I like the medal more than the cloth one. The strings kept sliding around and sometimes the cloth part would peek up over my neckline!

So, now I’m a happy Scapular-wearin’ rosary reciting Catholic again!

BTW, I started reciting the rosary daily during 2002, the Year of the Rosary. I have had many wonderful answers to prayer from this devotion, among them my dear husband’s conversion 2.5 yrs ago!! Thank you Our Lady!!

I made dh a Job’s tears rosary for his confirmation. It was a lot of work, but I think it turned out nicely. My second one was a bit better, but I will try the knotted one. I could make those in the car on long trips.

Also: I had bought a rosary in Rome some yrs ago (blessed by Paul VI); it was a wooden bead one where the beads could be slid down the cord – real nice when you’re driving – but the cord finally wore out. I had someone local restring it, but she didn’t do the knots right so it looks different. I have to locate it first (!) but I would like it restrung – anyone know where I could send it??

Hi, ya. Wellllllllll. If I get another camera I could do that 😃 I doubt I’ll get one very soon. My Baptist wife made me one also. She used snowflake obsidian for the Hail Mary’s & Black onix for the Paters. The crusifix is heavy silver & the finings are heavy too. They have a silver coat. I don’t know what the base metal is.
