I dislike Sunday night

I get like this too… so does my DH…
Our solution has been to “extend our weekend” until the last possible moment… don’t dwell on Monday morning until it’s here!
For us, that means getting out of the house on Sunday evenings. We normally head to Disney for a few hours with the family… not much, but just enough to “extend our weekend” out to the end of the evening. It’s a fun distraction and keeps our mind on our weekend fun rather than dwelling on the work week ahead.

Hope that helps! It’s worked well for us!

I hate to reveal this but, when I cannot sleep Sunday night, I cry (sometimes like a little child).

Now, am I the only one like this?LOL.
Now, am I abnormal?
not only normal but probably part of a large army of people dreading Monday morning

Monday Monday, can’t trust that day

Hi,

Emotional maturity…

Just how much emotional maturity does it take for someone to get used to living an adult life?

I am almost 20 and working full time just for this summer.
I am fine with my job but every Sunday night, I find it hard to sleep. I feel really emotionally unstable (like I want to cry, or think too much, or be stressed) when I try to sleep on Sunday night.

For people who have experienced this, just how did you deal with it?Or am I being abnormal?
This doesn’t seem all the unusual to me. I’ve always felt tired, drained and kind of sad on Sundays. It has nothing to do with going back to work I think it just my body cycle. I’m always tired on Fridays too. Mondays I tend to feel pretty good until I remember it’s just the begining of the work week. 😃

Hi,

Thanks for the advise.
Although I don’t have a “DH” yet perhaps I’ll just extend my weekend with family. =D

God Bless.

Thursday night is becoming my fave now because I know that the next day will be the end of the work week and pay cheques will come!

In the minority maybe but not abnomal.

Also people let out emotion in different ways - while some cry, others yell, throw things.

Maybe too there is something about not sleeping on a Sunday night that can get to some of us more than when it happens during the week - after all we’re meant to go into work on Monday all bright and cheerful ready for the challenges of the week. And here we are lying awake which will ensure we go in tired and less prepared for the challenges of the week.

I’ve been in a bullying situation at work twice and there were Sunday nights when the tears came at the thought of being back in the situation.
Wow, your words are very comforting!=D
Perhaps there’s a bit of self-pity in me that’s why I cry (sometimes a lot) when I l’m lying awake in bed every Sunday.

Oh I hate to sound pessimistic, but I’m 46 and I’ve had that all my life, as do most of my friends. I try not to start thinking about work on mondays until at least after 5p.m. on Sunday. Lat sunday it started the minute I left Mass, so buck up and I guess get used to it. I even spoke with my priest about it and he replied he also has a hard time on Sundays.

My goodness, you are **so **normal! You’re at the other awkard state of physical and emotional development that emphasizes a human’s lack of control over their lives, that transitional stage from youth to adulthood and all those responsibilities we’ve only heard adults whine and complain about over the years. No wonder we dread it so much!

I think the tears and such are part of the mourning process for our youth and the care-free years. Seven stages of death and all that, you know? With time we finally reach acceptance and we sleep better.

I wouldn’t worry too much about what you’re going through, but I would recommend praying the rosary at night. The college kids I know who complain about that say they do feel much better after taking me up on the recommendation. It just provides solace and you can almost feel Mary’s arms around you as you lay your head on the pillow. The repition puts you to sleep and your guardian angel finishes where you leave off. 👍

This is good advice and exactly what I do.

Sounds normal to me. I’m way older than you and I still have trouble getting to sleep Sunday nights.

Usually, trying to pray the Rosary helps if nothing else does.

No advice, but wow, you mean I’m not alone? I’ve always felt sort of melancholy on Sunday nights- dh has to go back to work, back to the routine of homeschooling, all that. This has made me feel a little better! 🙂

You know… I think I understand a little of what you’re going through. While I don’t experience the other issues you mentioned, it’s pretty usual for my hardest sleeping night to be Sunday night, because I know that I’m headed off to the office the next day. I have a great job, but it’s not who I am, if you know what I mean. In fact we just got back from a vacation recently, and I really had more of a problem than usual getting back in the swing of things. (All through vacation, a relative kept asking whether I was thinking about the office when I was looking introspective. Each time, though, I hadn’t been–until he asked me. 🙂 )

Perhaps it would help if you did something with a friend Sunday evening, or tried in other ways to be doing something you enjoy and not be alone. There might even be a late Sunday Mass in your area that you might find helps you put things in perspective a little better.

My guess is, with a little time, this problem will fade away, and you may not even remember it in a year.
