In the past few weeks, my faith has been at a very low point (pray for me). An epiphany hit me yesterday, though, which made me realize something: the lower my faith gets, the worse my emotional state is. Is this normal? Is it a gift from God maybe? I really don’t know, but I found that to be interesting. If anyone maybe has an answer, I’d be glad to hear it.

Thank you, and God bless.

Yes, faith is a gift from God. Technically speaking it is a “theological virtue” that is “infused” through “Divine Grace” which means, basically, that you cannot develop it yourself by human effort or willpower.

Pray for God to increase your faith and to make you open to receiving such faith. Spend time in Adoration before the Holy Eucharist.

I’m not surprised if you feel emotionally bad over losing your faith. I would too.
I will pray for you.

Faith cannot be given or increased by human effort alone - but the grace of faith must have our co-operation! Especially in the “earlier” years of one’s walk with Christ - we must walk with Him. That means, for us today, we must listen to Him and learn from Him. How? Holy Scripture offers us His words, teachings, actions, commands - it is a living Word, able to work in those who make their home in His Truth.

As we learn Him - as we become “disciplized” by Him - we can begin to make acts of infused supernatural faith, and hope, and divine charity. This begins our active co-operation: to make decisions, choices, actions because of the gift of holy faith. As we look for opportunities to do this (and we must begin to do this), we begin to learn what it means to be a disciple of Christ, to follow Him, to do His will and not my own will.

As you do this, more and more, you will grow in peace and in confidence of being - remaining - in Him, safe from the fears and guilt that come in a life apart from Christ.

You can definitely recharge with adoration, Eucharist, mass, and rosary. These are the best devotions for any Catholic. Jesus established the Eucharist for us and will be here until the end of the world. There is no other permanent fountain of God on earth.

I just saw an episode of Fulton Sheen’s “Life is Worth Living” on EWTN yesterday where he talked about how sitting in adoration gave people faith that had none. He of course did an hour of adoration every day. I try to go 2 or 3 times a week. I really miss it when I can’t get there.

I go to mass 2 or 3 times a week and get there early to sit in front of the tabernacle. Nothing else compares to adoration, rosary, mass, and Eucharist. Adoration and mass are the highest.

If faith is merely an assent to a “statement of faith”, then there is no relationship between your faith and your emotional state.

Generally though faith is an integral part of who you are, so it is going to affect your emotional state.

I think in many ways that is why people will abandon faith, so they can control emotion through their surroundings instead.
