I am currently 39 weeks and two days pregnant with my second baby( my first was early) I’m due on January 3rd actually. I have started to feel somewhat terrible today and started having contractions they aren’t too consistent but I am feeling a lot of pressure anyway is this good reason to miss Mass today? I feel guilty not going but I haven’t been able to make it through a whole hour lately I try every Sunday but fail to make it the whole time:/ I had plans to go this evening to Mass but am feeling so not well:/

The precept of the Church specifies the law of the Lord more precisely: "On Sundays and other holy days of obligation the faithful are bound to participate in the Mass."117 "The precept of participating in the Mass is satisfied by assistance at a Mass which is celebrated anywhere in a Catholic rite either on the holy day or on the evening of the preceding day."118

2181 The Sunday Eucharist is the foundation and confirmation of all Christian practice. For this reason the faithful are obliged to participate in the Eucharist on days of obligation, unless excused for a serious reason (for example, illness, the care of infants) or dispensed by their own pastor.119 Those who deliberately fail in this obligation commit a grave sin.

Illness is a valid reason to stay home… And as someone who’s mother works in the Nicu, I vote to stay home and try to convince Baby to stay safely inside as long as possible.
Maybe read through the readings and pray a rosary, if you haven’t done that today.
And look forward to your little Sweetpea!

No you are not required to go to Mass if you are almost due and feeling terrible and having contractions! Just watch/pray the Mass on YouTube. That’s what I do when I don’t feel good. I have several chronic disorders. There is a really good 30 minute Sunday Mass from the Archdiocese of Toronto on You tube that I usually watch. God Bless you and your family and your little one!

If you are not feeling well, it is okay to miss mass. Be at peace, and rest yourself. May God bless you and your family with a healthy baby and an easy delivery!

And congratulations on another Aggie generation, whoop! :+1:t2:

I had a very heavily pregnant parishioner at Christmas Day mass - I was grateful that we made it through without celebrating a second birth! 😟

Contractions sound to me like a very good reason to stay at home - for you priest’s sake as much as anything else! I would hope though that someone is bringing you the eucharist on a regular basis…
