I,am having a problem, and don,t know how to handle it.
See ,my wife gets mad at me because ,I take so long in saying the Rosary,She said,s it only takes her a short time, I told her I ,like too say the Rosary devotely, medating on each
Mystery, first, than I being the decade. I also like praying my pray card,s to Jesus,Mary
andSaints. But my wife said,s,that I don,t have to pray so much. I told her that I love to pray, because it keeps me close to GOD.I also Love saying the Rosary, because, It also
helps for the Salvation of the world and the Salvation of our Soul.
OUR LADY, Loves us the more ,when we devote ourselfs to the ROSARY,.this shows we are truly devote to her “IMMACULATE HEART’”
And 99 percent of the time, I Say my Rosary and pray cards, when everyone is Sleeping,
because I can concerate better. But I still got to her from my wife, you pray too much. She has told me many of times, may be you should of be a monk, since you like praying so much.I LOVE praying the Rosary, because ,OUR LADY has gotten me threw many
dificultie times. in my life. She,takes my prays to her son “JESUS”,who helps me. For Jesus is my strenght. He is also my GOD,my LORD,MY SAVOR,and my Brother, who
came too save me a sinner. I just wish my wife would understand, why I love praying so much, and not say what she said,s about my praying. So no matter what she said,s, I will
pray till GOD calls me HOME. I also told her, that when you say the Rosary, that the TV
should be off,so you can concerate better ,also that ,there should be no talking to others
while praying the Rosary. That your mine should be concerateing on the mysterys of the Rosary only.,but she said,s I,ll say the Rosary, the way I feel like saying it.
I some times say the Rosary, three times a day, because I,am devote to THE HOLY
ROSARY,which OUR LADY gave us to say.I also lead the Rosary at the Latin Mass,
it makes me feel so good, because I never lead the Rosary before, until, some one at the Latin Mass, ask if I would like too lead us,saying the Rosary. Now they look to see if I,am there too lead them.
Code:
May God help my wife understand, and help her to want to pray more offen,
      like I do.
Well if you are doing something pleasing to GOD and it bugs other people , even your wife - then consider yourself a GOOD CATHOLIC. We have to expect people to criticize us for being Catholic. I’d be more surprised if no one did. My advise , keep on doing what you are doing. YOU are the one giving the good example. And it will pay off one day , you will see. People grow spiritually at different rates. Your wife may be a little behind you in her growth. Her complaints are merely growing pains. Dont worry to much about them. She will tolerate you.

AMEN! (And as a Scottish-American, might I say…you’ve got an awesome name!) This is similar to some advice my pastor gave me when I first began to take a walk on the trad side. People tend to be made uncomfortable when they see others doing things they know they should be doing–like taking a more contemplative approach to the rosary. According to a lecture by Fr. Chad Ripperger, FSSP: there are multiple layers of prayer, each higher than the next. Simple verbal prayer is the first rung on the ladder (so to speak.) It’s prayer, but it’s not as deep as when you engage mind and soul in mental prayer (as the original poster seems to be doing when he prays the rosary.) Our Lady has actually instructed us to not just mindlessly rush through the rosary. So to the original poster, I say: KUDOS! Way to be the spiritual head of a real Catholic family! Keep leading the way and praying for your wife. That’s one of the things a real husband does. Don’t let her criticism discourage you.

There’s no hint in the slightest that he’s neglecting his family or other duties in any fashion,
Hello LilyM, 🙂

You are right, Johnbapist1, clarified this for me. He is not neglecting his wife in any shape or form, so that is out of the picture. Since, it was not clear that this was not the case I thought it could be something to consider, after all, she keeps complaining that he prays too much and gets ‘mad’.

With the above possibility eliminated, why would a wife complain because her husband prays in the evening before falling asleep when everyone else is sleeping? I would think that a wife would be happy and very well pleased and at peace.

Hello Johnbaptist1, 🙂
Now, as far as when you pray the rosary together and you praying it slower than your wife, I would say that your wife can adjust and practice patience. Perhaps, she can pray for the blessing of appreciating the profundity and devotion of your spirituality. I would also think that fast or slow she would understand that the television and all the noises should be eliminated when praying the rosary. I pray the rosary with my children on Saturdays and we could not possibly pray it with noise and we do not answer the phone if someone calls when we are praying. I would think that your wife understands that in order to pray at peace and obtain spiritual peace to pray, we need to eliminate as much distractions as possible. I am surprised she does not recognize this.

Most of all JohnBaptist1, I hope you will get some good advice in this thread which will help you resolve your problem. I hope your wife stops getting mad at you for praying, this is not good for you nor for her.

So, what is needed here is advice on how to get johnbaptis1’s wife to:

a) recognize that distractions and noises (t.v. off) should be eliminated when praying the rosary,
b) understand that praying the rosary is a spiritual exercise and is not a fast recanting of prayers,
b) develop an appreciation for the fact that her husband loves to pray the rosary and his prayer cards, (which does not interfere with his duties nor responsibilities).

Please let us know when you resolve the situation.

You and your wife remain in my humble prayers,

Peace,
Abba

Please recognize that your wife is spiritualy at a different place than you. When she criticizes - just smile and say “sorry, you know how I get carried away”.

Also - don’t be afraid to interrupt God for God. By that, I mean if you are praying to God and someone interrupts and requires an act of charity. That too is a gift to God. So stop the prayers and perform the act of charity. Your wife needs you, your children need you. A stranger on the street may need you. These acts of charity are more pleasing to God than prayers. You can always finish your rosary later, and if you can’t - ask your guardian angel to finish it for you.

Peace,
John Marie Philomena
