Quick update.
  • Last week, I involved the Youth Minister last week, she is a revert and really got to the kids. Seems the biggest concern is that they don’t really know what’s going on in the Mass they are “forced” to attend.
  • This week, I brought in Father Dennis (the funny one) and he walked us around the Church and explained what things were and why they were there and they they were important to Catholics.
  • I got a copy of the e-book “Why do Catholics Bounce on One Knee” and I explained why we do things and talked about the faith.
Thank you all for your prayers, they are working.😃

Tell them creation itself is a miracle. In actuality, if there is no creator, there should be only nothingness. Creation always has an origin. To say creation has always existed violates the fundamental natural law of cause and effect. There HAS TO BE a first cause, something that brought creation into existence. That first cause is God. 🙂

Good luck! I became an atheist at 14, and came back Home to Rome just this year - I am 40. I would like to suggest Case for Christ and Case for Faith. Those brought me back intellectually.

As a starting point gently take them outside and ask them - show me anything here that was created by man from nothing.

That will start them thinking about who created.

Hi,

I’m a convert from the Nazarene church, and one of the best statements I’ve heard over and over again is “Even if you don’t believe in God, He believes in you!” That’s why He gave His son on Calvary, that’s why He gave you life, that’s why He brought you here today…pray about and try that approach. We server a Mighty God! He is all around us, if we but pray for the scales to be lifted from our eyes for us to see. We can see Him everywhere, each day, in nature, in family, in our daily life. And faith is a gift. Ask and you shall receive, Matthew 7:7!

“I DON’T BELIEVE IN GOD!!!”
Reply: “Well, he’s still glad you’re here.”

Continue to teach the class.

If they’re hoping you’ll help them get out of it, that should pretty much end the discussion.

Then, while they’re “stuck” there, you can figure out if they really don’t believe. If this is the case, then it looks like there’s a lot of great advice for handling that here already. 🙂

“I DON’T BELIEVE IN GOD!!!” was the statement two of my students said to me. Two young ladies, 14 and 17 are in a RCIC (RCIA for Children) class I was assigned to teach. These two ladies are “being forced” (as they put it) by their parents to take my class.

I could use help here. Does anyone have any Ideas and or references or games (etc). that I could use to reach these two? I understand that 1) they are young and 2) they are mad because they are there. However, it is my job to try and reach them. Any Ideas?

Thank you in advance.
I would do what someone else recommended: ask each one why she doesn’t believe in God. If the answer is understandable in the context of an intelligent person considering the evidence, I would thank them for being honest, firstly. Secondly, I would ask them if they are 100% positive that God does not exist. If they say yes, then just ask them to stay in the class and listen. If they say no, give them the names of some apologetics books geared to teenagers (depending on their ability). Perhaps they’re very bright and could benefit from adult books that deal with areas in which they are bogged down.

Their parents are likely whom you should also be talking to and giving recommendations for books for THEM. I would be sure to give them an index card or something tangible that they can take with them instead of just orally telling them.

Good luck!

First off, realize that you can not make anyone believe in God.
Faith is a gift from God, for those who are open to it.

The best you can hope for is to be an inspiration for these young people, who will be drawn towards openess to faith, either now, or further down the road.

I remember having a 16 year old student in my Confirmation classs, who’s mother suddenly found religion and decided after all these years, to send her two teen kids to CCD. I got nothing but rebellion from this student, and in all my 17 years of teaching, she was the first and only student to be removed from my class, permanently.

GREAT NEWS…The 14 year old asked to learn to pray the Hail Mary and the 17 year old has started wearing a crucifix. PRAISE GOD!

I teach youth and to those who say they “don’t believe in God” I just say, You know it’s funny that you should say you don’t believe in God. This opens the subject. They ask what I meen. I just ask what a god is? and when they say I don’t know i ask then to think of what god is. I then tell them that god is a motivator. Here they ask me what I mean. I say that god is a motivator of how we think what we do etc.
I then ask them what motivates then in life? They usually say cars, bikes, girls, sport etc. I then say OK, what would you have left if you took those things away , took your god away since he is your cars sport etc. They all say we would have nothing left.

I then say my God is LOVE, now try to take it, HIM away and what would I have left? They all say you cant take Him away, so I ask why and they say He lives inside of you. Here I say that’s why he can never let me down you would have to kill me to get rid of Him and all I do is good to other, thats why there is a God, and he is LOVE. We call Him on earth Jesus. There is another god a lesser one and we call him satin but some people don’t want to talk about him because he causes people to do bad deeds.

Hope that helps. 🙂

While it is probably the whole ‘ruler of the world’ mentality that has been suggested by others here, you can’t force them to believe in God. While encouragement may be helpful, if this mentality continues, you may have to talk to the parents about (even if temporarily) taking them out of the class. As I said, don’t shove it down their throats. I, for one would absolutely despise it.
