I’ve encountered a few individuals, mostly of the non-denominational denomination that have stated the above quotes. How can I respond to those statements? What would be the best approach?

For the “I don’t believe in organized religion” statement I am tempted to respond “…so, I take it you believe in dis-organized religion?”

Thanks in advance for your comments.

That is a very frustrating one to deal with. I also have dealt with that objection. I think the best way to go about that is to compare it to something entirely different but similar. For example “I don’t do organized government”…what happens when we don’t have some kind of organization to government? Anarchy. What about not having any organization to your laundry. How do you find your socks? Then of course there is the 20,000 some odd protestant denominations. Basically it sounds good on paper but just doesn’t work in reality. God wouldn’t give us a free for all.

The main problem here though is not that they don’t see the wisdom in organization. It is that they are not interested in God and this is their chosen excuse of the moment. I consider them blind at this point and prayer is probably the best way to go about it.

My Comment: LOL I was hoping to find an anti-catholic to debate with. Haven’t found one so far. Thought, from your post, that you were one. Jesus believed in it. He started a Church and we see it in many verses: Eph 3:10 " That the widsom of God may be made known to the principalities & powers in heavenly places through the CHURCH." It is through the church that the wisdom of God is made known to us. Eph 4:3-5, " Careful to keep the unity of the spirit…One Lord, one Faith, one Baptism…for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the Body of Christ…until we all meet into the unity of faith…that henceforth we be no more children tossed to and fro, carried about with every wind of doctrine…" The church has the authority to unite in truth. The church brings about the unity of faith. Protestantism has produced 33,000 denominations – no unity of faith. 1 Tim 3:15 says, “3:15. But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the CHURCH of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.” Matt 16:18 says, " And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build MY CHURCH, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." (NOTICE: ONE CHURCH) There are other verses but the real problem they have is this: Where is the Authority? They would say the bible alone. I would start there with them.

May God bless,

Exactly, what else organized bothers them, organized government, organized, companies, organized rooms.

Organized Religion is a generalized statement that covers everything from Mormonism, to JW, to Southern baptist.
The fact is christianity was organized in the book of acts. Even a local non-organized protestant group is organized

I am plagiarizing from another thread. I forget the author.

A stained glass window doesn’t look very good from the outside.

But, go inside. If the sun shines through, it is beautiful.

Things look different from the inside!

I’ve had friends who didn’t believe in organized religion. However, we prayed together, read the Bible together, and discussed various aspects of religion.

Jesus said, "Wherever two or more are gathered in My Name, there I am.

Mabe so, Chris, But “2 or more gathered in His name” automatically includes being gathered in accordance to His teachings which has been entrusted to the Church. (as far as the participants can understand)

Regarding the question posed for the thread is concerned, I always ask them if they believe in disorganized religion. Televangesists have turned the word “religion” into a four letter word, and have altered its true meaning. I’m glad itsjustdave posted the dictionary definition.

Well I usually say “Jesus Chirst believed in organized religion, he was a Jew.”

The people who say “I don’t beleive in religion” usually add “I beleive in a personal relationship with God/Christ.”
They see the two as opposed to each other when they really are the same.

If fact these people when questioned closely reveal that they are evangelical/fundamentalist Protestants which of course is a religion.

They beleive in sola scriptura which is a part of the Protestant religion. The beleive in “gettin saved”, askin Jesus to come into their heart to be their “personal saviour”. Which although is Evangelical is not in the Bible making their “sola scriptura” to be a lie.

So basically these “religion-free” individuals are members of the Protestant, Evangelical, Fundamentalist … RELIGION.

It has become unfashionable for them to admit it since this “religion free” religion is a big part of the pop-fad Evangelical religion of today, along with the “rapture” “left Behind” theology, and the new “Christian/Jewish” “messianic”, combination that likes to combine Judaism and Christianity into one faith and calls God “g-d” and Jesus “Yeshuah”.

These fads will pass to be replaced with new fads.
