Well I think you should talk to the priest and see if there is any other ways you can get involved in parish life … there usually is.

I don’t know what the cultural situation in the US is like, but Catholic Churches in my country (Australia) are generally not very welcoming. Our Protestant brethren do a much better job at noticing and engaging new faces.

One thing you could do (which worked for me) is to attend mass at an inconvenient time, when the congregation is small. After a few weeks you’ll recognise the familiar faces and they will recognise you. It’s a small, low-stress step from a friendly nod to an introduction and chat.
 
Maybe pray for courage to try to socialize (when this can be done safely). People may not just wanna go up and talk with you if it looks like you don’t wanna talk…but what do I know?

thought church was supposed to be a community, but I feel so alone. I am a convert and miss going to a church where I wasn’t an outcast. I m
You are normal to wonder this issue. All my. Church going friends are experiencing this. No prayer groups no meetings no social connections. Yes it sucks??
 
You are never alone if you have God. Think about the Holy Desert Fathers living alone in the desert. Also, always be prepared to be disappointed by your fellow parishioners, do not hold them to a high standard.
