I don't get sola scriptura

Hi, and welcome to CAF. I’ve been trying to explain this for a while, that the sola in sola scriptura means the final norm to which doctrines, teachers and teachings are held accountable. Hope you have better luck. 🤷

Yes, this is the approach Lutherans take to some (not all) of the Marian teachings

Agreed, with the caveat that elders/pastors involved must be true to the confessions and doctrines of the Church.
Thanks, Jon
And what Church that would be? If the Bible alone describe the True Faith, One Faith, all in teh same mind, same belief, what would be the one to decide matters according to the Bible?

this is one of the many questions that protestants cannot answer.

Another question, how do you make the Bible the sole authority? where do you see this in the Bible?

And I also ask you to answer honestly where did you get this idea of the Bible being the sole authority? and from whom?

I’d like to say the same one that held the 7 great councils of the early Church, but that hasn’t been possible because of Schism. So, at least for now, I turn to the Lutheran Confessions and my communion.

How did I do? 🙂

There are a number of scriptural references, but as you and I agree, the Church has authority in these matters. For Lutherans, the Church’s position (in its authority) is that it uses scripture as the final norm to determine doctrine, to hold such doctrines and teachings accountable.

I hope I answered that above.

Not too good. you did not answer any of the question.

7 Councils? The Catholic Church did not stop at the seven Councils, she continued on and she still here with the Vicar of Christ on earth.

when did the idea of sole Scripture came about? and by whom? lutherans have no authority to decide since they are not the Church Jesus found.

Which Church has authority in these matters? You know Jesus only found One Church and not many. many, which are no churches, is not the plan of God, therefore they do not exist.

Perhaps it wasn’t the answer you wanted to hear.

Name me another patriarch that accepts the others.

I know that is your feeling.

Perhaps I want to hear the Truth, which you cannot recognize.

The Vicar of Christ on earth is the one all should come to.

It is not a feeling it is teh Truth, it also written in sola Scripture also. Which it is interesting that you cannot even obey sola Scripture.

No problem. The Truth cannot be rebutted no matter how one tries. What God has done no man can undo.

Plus, you cannot in good conscious to show that our ancestrals the witnesses of the CC, our Fathers, during her life as Pilgrim on earth ever advocated or even accept anyone outside the Church to be preaching the Word of God ever. They have always been called heretics. The Church always hope that they will repent and return.

You don’t have to agree with it, but that’s the way it’s been understood and practiced historically.
I don’t think so. the groups that claimed to be following “Sola Scriptura” bitterly disagreed on what it means, even on fundamental issues

and the oral traditions of these groups are very at odds with Scripture in points of dispute with the Biblical Church
