I don't have a Catholic bible, please write the macccabees chapter 15 for me!

Are you saying you don’t have a full KJV but only a mutilated copy?

I did this myself. When I read the Bible, it was the “abridged” version as I like to joke with my CCD students. So, I finally went and read the rest. I especially enjoyed Sirach and Judith. My dd, age 12, really liked Judith, too.

My bible was produced by “The Church of England”, that’s Anglican. So yes, it is missing the books from the Catholic bible, obviously. 😉
 
Actually the full KJV, as originally produced by King James I and the Church of England has all of those Catholic books in a separate section from the Old Testament and the New, called the Apocrypha.

All of the bibles here in the christian book stores are protestant ones, there are NO catholic bibles at all! I asked the guy for one and he said that he had never heard of a catholic bible! He asked me what was different about it!

I still just don’t understand why they were taken out? I don’t think that there is any good enough excuse to remove books from the bible!

Here on CAF, a Catholic PM’d me saying, “Doesn’t it bother you that you have books missing in your bible? If you have gaps in your bible, then you must have gaps in your faith.”

I was shocked when he said this to me because I didn’t know that Catholics had more in their bibles!
 
It was mainly because they contained some support for Catholic doctrines, and probably a lot of it has to do with Martin Luther’s personal tastes. He also considered removing Hebrews and Revelation…
If you’re trying to pick a Bible, the NAB is very good for study and uses modern language. DR is a lot like the KJV. If you read here, you can see that all of the orthodox writers of the Early Church accepted the books Luther removed: catholic.com/library/Old_Testament_Canon.asp

That Luther… do you think he went to hell for this? Just think of all the protestants there are because of him! 😦
 
Well, honestly I hope he’s in heaven. It’s not something we can really no, we can judge a person’s actions on earth, but we must entrust them to God’s infinite mercy. However, there was a saint (I believe it was a St. Theresa, though there are several of them, and I may be entirely wrong) who is said to have had a vision of hell, and Luther and Calvin were both there. She said that for every Protestant there sufferings are added to… I hope, though, that God had mercy on them. All we can do is wait until we get there and see (to heaven, I hope!) if they are there.

Well, another great idea would be to convert protestants because then Luthers pain might decrease? Be bold and brave, convert the lost.
 
I was recently schocked to learn the original KJV in part was cross-checked with the Douay-Rheims in order to preserve accuracy, since the DR came first… So you know it’s got solid content. It’s just that I have a problem reading that ‘old english’ grammar and verbage. It’s tough for me to understand. I stick with the NAB because it’s easier for me. But I would like to get the Ignatius Bible. A lot of apologists use this extensively and it’s got better footnotes.

If you can’t handle the Douay, getting ahold of the older Confraternity Bible might just be the thing for you. 🙂 You’d have to get, I think, it in two volumes to get both New and Old in it, but it should be good.
