We have been through a very difficult year… My husband has been struggling with keeping a job since last May. We have a 3 year old and a baby. He finally got a good job this week and was fired earlier today. His coworkers talked bad about him to the boss.

I have been praying but honestly, in the last few months, I don’t feel the desire to pray. I do talk to God throughout the day but I feel so worn out… sad, overwhelmed, stressed.

I don’t understand why God hasn’t answered our employment prayers. I know that sounds horrible. I never thought I’d question God why…

Please pray for us. It is getting really hard to come up with our daily meals. 😦

I am truly sorry for what you’re going through. As someone who has lived in poverty for most of my life, I can deeply sympathize what your problems. There is very little more trying - to our families, to our minds and to our souls - than poverty. Often times, there is little we can do to remedy it; it is society’s choice whether to help us or not, and they frequently choose the latter, refusing employment, aid, etc. From my own experience, I think the most important things to remember as we try to have a relationship with Christ in our poverty, is that God is omnipotent and perfectly good; there is no way everything in this world will not eventually be as He wishes. But, we must also remember that God put freedom into the world, a freedom the first humans abused and a freedom we all abuse even now. God does not wish to dominate our lives; rather, He chooses to use sin - our own and others’ - for our spiritual benefit. While He has deep compassion for all of us, His first priority is our eternal souls. Because Christ was poor Himself, He knows our plight; and because of His Passion, it is through our plight that we may be saved, suffering the pains of life without giving in to the sin of this world. We must never let sin, pain and tragedy blind us to this ultimate reality: that Christ suffered and died for us so that our suffering may have a meaning greater than any of us can imagine.

I sincerely hope and pray that my advise and even more so, the grace of Our Lord may help you, guide you and return your vision to the divine Beatitude of eternity with Christ, where all tears are wiped away and all fears vanquished. I pray that your family may have all that you need, both necessities and comforts, and that others may give you the opportunity to have them. Finally, I pray that you may find strength and consolation in the love you share for one another, allowing these struggles to help you grow closer to one another and to all those dealing with financial problems as you are. I ask for the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, your guardian angel, and St. Francis of Assisi. God bless. 🙂

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Prayer to St. Joseph for the Unemployed

O Saint Joseph, we pray to you for those who are out of work, for those who want to earn their living or support their families.

You who are the patron of workers; grant that unemployment may vanish from our ranks; that all those who are ready to work may put their strength and abilities in serving their fellowmen and earn a just salary.

You are the patron of families; do not let those who have children to support and raise lack the necessary means. Have pity on our brothers and sisters held down in unemployment and poverty because of sickness or social disorders. Help our political leaders and captains of industry find new and just solutions. May each and every one have the joy of contributing, according to his abilities, to the common prosperity by an honorable livelihood. Grant that we may all share together in the abundant goods God has given us and that we may help underprivileged countries. Amen.

For Help in Trials

Most holy apostle St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the traitor who delivered your beloved Master into the hands of His enemies has caused you to be forgotten by many. But the Church honors and invokes you universally as the patron of hopeless cases–of things despaired of. Pray for me who feels so hopeless. Make use, I implore you, of that particular privilege accorded to you of bringing visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need, that I may receive the consolations and succor of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, in particular Barboza21 and her family, and that I may bless God with you and all the elect throughout eternity. I promise you, O Blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, and I will never cease to honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to do all in my power to encourage devotion to you. Amen.

Praying for your intentions. Sorry to hear this. God Bless you all.

Try not to fall into despair. It won’t help anything, and you both need to stay strong in faith. Be assured of our prayers for you and the situation.

Alcuin18, thank you for your words. I will keep what you said in mind. I will keep praying.

Thank you all for your prayers. May God bless you.

NO, I don’t think that sounds horrible at all. You have some legitimate concerns. The bible says “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? …: (Matthew 6:25-34). I know it is easier said than done, but try not to worry. Either way, I am praying for you.

Marydaze, I do think about that…

and I am happy to share that MY HUSBAND GOT ANOTHER JOB AND WILL START MONDAY!! He was supposed to get paid today for the four days he worked… I’m not sure yet if they did pay him, but at least he has a job.

Gracious and merciful Father, please come to their assistance.

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

O My Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who are in most need of Thy mercy. Amen.
