Hello,
Rosary has always been my favourite prayer and I try to say it whenever I can. Today I was saying 15 decades of Rosary and while I was meditating on the mysteries, a thought popped up, saying, “Mary was conceived without sin. If God chose me to be immaculately conceived instead of Mary, I would have been much better than Mary because I am intelligent. It is humiliating to honour Mary through Rosary. You are better than her.”
I don’t know why these unholy thoughts are keep popping up and it is really bothering me. I don’t want to be like Lucifer, whose sin was pride and disobedience. I am trying to get rid of these thoughts and I did managed to pray 15 decades of Rosary today, but I think from now on every time when I say “Hail Mary…” the thought will come back.
I feel so ashamed…I need help…why am I thinking this?

Wherever they came from, I would ignore them and keep on praying.

You recognize them as disturbing and innapropriate, that is good, now work out, logically to yourself why Mary was the ideal choice! Having a head full of modern child rearing ‘knowledge’ is not neccessarily all its cracked up to be!

Your human and subject to a bit of vanity, lack of humility, and thoughts of self-glorification from time to time …All of us are. Don’t despair or dwell on the same flaws that most of us have. Just keep praying. You may wish to break your rosary from 15 to 5 decades at a time so that your mind and spirit doesn’t tire and wander. Peace and prayers for you.

It is easy to see that they have absorbed the poison of Hell and that they are inspired by the Devil, for no one can condemn devotion to the holy Rosary without condemning all that is most holy to the Catholic Faith.
~St. Louis de Montfort

Father, the devil is carrying on a decisive battle with the Virgin Mary. He sees that his time is getting short, and he is making every effort to gain as many souls as possible. He wants to get hold of consecrated souls. Our Lady did not tell me that we are living in the last epoch of the world, but she did give me to understand that, firstly, we are going through a decisive battle, at the end of which we will be either of God or of the evil one: there will be no middle way; secondly, that the last means God will give to the world for its salvation are the Holy Rosary and the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary; and third, when God in His providence is about to chastise the world, He first uses every means to save us, and when He sees we have not made use of them, then He gives us the last anchor of salvation, His Mother.
~1957 Sister Lucia interview with Fr. Augustin Fuentes

Mary, being the pinnacle of God’s creation was granted perfect intelligence. No human could ever come close.
Ave Maria!

It sounds like a temptation from the evil one to cause you to stop praying the Rosary.

Thoughts that pop into our head that we are not entertained by is not a sin.

Thanks be to the Lord for the prayers of the holy Rosary!

I don’t see why Mary wouldn’t be intelligent. Maybe she was quite brilliant. For all we know she was.

It sounds like a temptation. If you do not willingly entertain those evil thoughts, you don’t sin. Try offering your Rosary up to be delivered from these temptations.

She made no mistakes, through some difficult situations. I think that in addition to being holy, she is very wise.

It is a familiar deceiving spirit and most people can’t figure it out when it happens. 2 cor 10:5 . casting down wrong thoughts. That are not from God

It came straight from the Devil. That is exactly the kind of thought he would put to you. Just make a reverent sign of the cross and it will go away. I get them all the time and the sign of the cross does the trick.

Early in my spiritual life, I felt the same way as you… whenever I had an evil thought, it literally felt as painful as an arrow piercing my soul… I thought to myself that there must be some evil within me, to have thoughts like that popping into my head… until I read…
**
Ephesians 6: 10 - 17**

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.

Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace."

In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication."

That is your ego, which is your false “self” that Scripture implores us to die to. For most of us this is a lifelong battle. As someone else said, ignore these thoughts, and go back to the Rosary. Do not try to stop or suppress the thought because then it becomes stronger. Just recognize it as a false thought from the ego and go back to the Rosary.

This is beautiful. I cried after reading this. Jesus loves us beyond our understanding if the whole world realised this the world would change.

(I will re-post a post I posted before - general remarks about “unwanted thoughts”)

UNWANTED THOUGHTS

All sorts of thoughts can happen to us out of the blue…(not sought etc)

The fact that a thought happened to one- does not mean per se there was any sin.

And for mortal sin one needs not only grave matter, full knowledge and deliberate (complete) consent…

Just cause a thought happened to you does not mean there was any sin. Let alone mortal sin.

Just calmly turn to something good…

Now…

For the next few moments --try real hard NOT to think of an Apple.

then scroll down.

What did you think of?

An apple.

Even though your will was against it (you did not want to think of an apple!)

Now back to unwanted thoughts…

*The more you fear and try hard not to have them…the more they will likely come and bother you.
*
The best thing to do with such thoughts is not to fight them directly --not fear that they will come—simply do not consent and simply and calmly turn to something else…(or it may be best to keep doing the good thing one is doing…like they come out of the blue when your at work …keep working…keep praying …etc…calmly ignoring them…turning to something good…)

Ignore such unwanted thoughts like one would ignore a hissing goose or a barking dog. One does not stop to argue with a hissing goose or a barking dog does one? No one keeps on walking…

(as noted above the image there comes from a Carthusian Monk from centuries ago…)

Ignore such unwanted thoughts and do not fear them…just calmly turn to something good.
