I DON'T like IKE!

Oh crud!!!

DH left tonight for New York City, which will be getting hit by Hanna.

He’s supposed to come back Tuesday, the day we’re going to get SLAMMED by IKE.

I don’t know what to do. There is nowhere to run in Florida. I think my choices are to get a plane out tomorrow, or wait for hubby to get back (hopefully in time).

On the happy side, Whole Foods finally opened down here. Guess I’ll go stock up on non-perishables.

BTW, DH and I got engaged during Wilma and rode it out together. I’m sure our house will be fine. I just don’t want to be alone with a baby riding out a category 3 or 4.

Aww, prayers for you and baby. If you can afford it can you catch a plane to your family where you can wait out the storm? Are you in contact with your husband?

DH is on his flight…oh wait, he might be landing soon. I can count on 1 hand the number of times we’ve been apart. I’m a little clingy.

The problem with leaving is not being sure when you’ll be allowed to come back. Funny thing is that I was supposed to go with him. For a number of reasons I decided to stay home…well, the Lord will help us…

I’m trying to get that pioneer spirit engaged.

ugh! I can sympathize! We JUST got done with Gustav and I am watching Ike like a hawk. I’m not wishing him on anyone, but I can assure you we don’t want him over here! There are still tons of people here in Louisiana without electricity and living off of MRE’s. It is so sad.

This storm looks massive too…like in its span of where it might hit. I hope they are wrong! Here in Tampa today, it was overcast…some sun, not much–but very breezy and not much humidity…that’s how I know a storm is coming close.

I just hope even if it does hit us, that it’s not horrible…a category 3 or 4 is crazy! Where to go if they evacuate the whole state? Has all of Florida ever been evacuated–anyone know?

I don’t know if the whole state of Florida has ever been evacuated before, but if I were you I would leave this weekend. Traffic is going to be CRAZY as you get closer to the storm. My in-laws evacuated to Houston for Gustav, which should have taken only 3 hours to get there from where we are at, and the trip lasted 11 hours .

The bad part is that people are evacuating from the East Coast right now, so space is going to be limited no matter where you go.

We live further inland in Louisiana, and for some strange reason we never lost power for Gustav. I never lost “tv” either because we have a satellite. I am so thankful for that…and I know it’s because everyone was praying for us.

Leave soon? Really? No one where I work (my office is right on the bay) issued an alert for us to not come in on Monday…but they are tracking it to see if the office will be closed by Tuesday/Wed. Thankfully, I don’t live near the bay–I’m about 15 miles north from Tampa…and about 25 miles from the beach…I am hoping we don’t have to leave.

My pregnant step-daughter-in-law along with her 5 young children live in Land of Lakes. My stepson is in Iraq (working with the military as a civilian).

We just finished with Gustav and still do not have power. Thank you, for the generator and the 2 window units that my dear husband purchased after Lili that have been sitting around in my way for 5 years.

While I am not advocating that you stay and ride out a hurricane I do believe Ike should miss Florida. Keep in mind I am not a meteorologist but a well dedicated enthusiast.

According to the following models: HWRF, GFS, GFDL, UKMET, and NGFDL Ike will pass south of Florida very near Cuba. The Current NHC track has Ike going between the Florida Keys and Cuba. After that all interests will be in the Gulf. Ike is expected to maintain major hurricane status flirting with Category 4 winds until it is in the Gulf(around Wednesday); beyond that NHC meteorologists can not forecast at this point in time. Tomorrow and the days to follow Ike’s track will become more known. Right now South Florida is still a risk but not in immediate danger IMO.

Yes, that seems to be how things look, thank goodness! I did have a ticket on hold to leave, but it seems like DH should be able to fly in on Tuesday morning okay.

I hope you get power soon. We lived without it for a few days after Wilma and that was a challenge. Thank goodness that the weather got nice and cool. Our car AC broke on I-10 just east of New Orleans when we were driving to Florida. That was the most hellish car ride I’ve ever experienced. (And I’ve driven in Texas without AC in summer.) I couldn’t imagine that gulf coast humidity without a window unit to keep my sanity!

We just got back from the Gustav evacuation, and now it looks like by Wednesday we may have to turn right back around and head up the freeway again. So please pray the Memorare for us. I don’t wish this storm on anybody, so I pray it will weaken significantly and go ashore in a sparsely populated area.

I know just what you need. I just came back Friday night after a week away due to Gustav. And now I may have to deal with Ike.I will be happy when Halloween comes and hurricane season is over.
