Well, as has been stated in the past few posts, it’s a delcaration that a Sacramental marriage had never taken place when the alleged marriage was contracted. Bilop went into it a little further.

What is isn’t is a divorce or dissolution of a marriage. The Catholic Church believes that a valid or Sacramental marriage cannot be dissolved.
I always knew it was not a “divorce”; an annulment means that a valid marriage did not take place. We have that idea in Judaism too, such as when a Kohen marries a divorced woman, or a Jew remarries without having received a “get” (bill of divorcement) first. Such marriages are not real marriages since they cannot, by religious law, take place.
My question was, why were they so hard to get before V2, and easier now? Is it that more Catholics now are getting invalid marriages to start with?

I seem to remember that the fat guy in England wanted an annulment too, and because he couldn’t get one, he had to contrive all sorts of reasons why he felt his marriage was invalid.

When he didn’t get it, he broke away and started his own church!

And as for the post that said my church fathers came out of the Catholic church—I don’t believe that. I know you do, and I know I don’t, and I’m not going to get into a long discussion about it, because neither of us will change our mind.
Here’s some Baptist history, from a Baptist source. Notice Smyth was ordained Anglican. Who did the Anglican church break from? That’s right. The Catholic Church.

In a nut shell someone answered this question best already. It’s not an annulment it’s really a Declaration of Nullity. That in essence means that a marriage never existed for a number of possible reasons. The problem with the process right now is like in your case, some are fudging records upon their own condemnation… One has to wonder what someone like that is thinking 😦 . Some of us married outside the church and later after realizing that we should have gone through protocol had our marriages convalidated or “blessed” to help non-Catholics understand. The real issue seems to be in this “culture of death”…contracepting society, abortion society, dating society, hooking up, homosexual rights socieity, …sin ridden society. Most of us have been duped into accepting many of the latest fads to screw up our thinking and thus many if not most are entering into false marriages. They’re in all faiths and non-faiths. The problem is really prevalent in our American Culture…that is if you’re not American. But we’re not the only culture messed up. We just stand out more because we love to blow other countries up, but that is my Franciscan showing. My parents marriage was declared null or non-existent if i said that correctly. It hurt me. That was their sin, not mine or the Church’s. It may have been some priests and Bishops sin too for not teaching properly or thoroughly. But that is up to God and them. I forgive them for scandalizing my entire existence. It’s difficult if it matters to you [universal use here meaning it bothers me too].

I would image that because of the bizarre times we live in, there are more strange situations. I can only guess.

“marital unfaithfulness”

It’s not certain what Jesus really meant, probably it was an unlawful relation and I don’t think it’s that “marital unfaithfulness” is a proper translation.

The followers of Christ are obliged to obey his vicar and the teaching of his Church, that is: divorces are not acceptable.

Anyway protestants live in marriages that are not sacrament. I don’t know how to call it, a blessing? an agreement? Definitely not sacrament as a result of no priesthood.
