I don't use the holy water

Do you have MRSA or Ebola or something?
Seriously, the water is saline, and it should only go on fingertips, forehead, and clothing (no bare shoulders or low cut tops at Mass please, folks).

People are probably at much greater risk of communicable disease from handling the Breaking Bread volume in front of them. I don’t worry too much about that, either.

There was a fly pestering me the other day after Mass. Beelzebub, probably.

If you are truly concerned about sickening others, you could always scrub your hands with sanitising gel just prior to dipping your fingers in the water. There are tiny sizes of sanitiser bottles made especially for travelers. I always have one on me.

I just snorted. 🤣🤣🤣😍😍😍

Which bacterium is that? Chances are it’s in all water anyway, really. If we saw all water under a microscope (and all food, actually) we’d never touch anything again.

We may have super oily, dirty people here in the south 🙂

I stopped when I saw the dirt that was in the fonts when they were changed/cleaned each week. It was seriously disgusting. Just like dirty bathwater including the grey, waxy ring around the edges. Maybe it is because we have very small fonts at each door. They each hold maybe 10 oz of water.

Places that have those ginormous fonts would not have such concentration of body oils/dirt I’m guessing.

When visiting the Missions in San Antonio, one font had little critters swimming in the water. They looked like water fleas.
Ewww.

I think it’s a protozoan. Probably harmless. Unless it’s Balantidium coli or something.
I taught medical micro to gifted teens for five summers. I’d tell them that by the end of the course we’d have two lists: one list of activities that carried some risk of infection and the other list of things that were risk free. The latter list was empty, lol!
Bet they never forget to avoid armadillos at the petting zoo.

Leprosy isn’t a good thing to catch. Yet, our Lord touched one leper, and cured 10 at one time.

My parents may have raised ugly kids, but not stupid ones.
(Sorry, I don’t get much chance to use that line often) 😄

Really want to avoid contagious disease? Shun these deadly vectors at all costs:

There are lots of things to expend mental energy on, and usage of Holy Water is not one of them.

Are you sure it is signs of salt and not hard water stains?
We have very “hard” water in my area. In addition to cleaning the wall mounted fonts a few times a week, every other week we use vinegar to remove the scale deposits.

I don’t see a problem with not using the communal font. We all have our little quirks with things that gross us out. Like others have mentioned, just get yourself a personal bottle to use because there are many spiritual benefits to holy water.

OTOH, if you are finding that your fear of germs is interfering with your everyday life, then professional help should be sought.

why are people so afraid of germs…that’s how our immune systems grow

Holy water is so refreshing. I doubt it would make someone sick

I have to admit that of all the problems I have, I’ve always been grateful that worrying too much about germs isn’t one of them. And I mean that with total sincerity. That must really be a terrible way to live.
