I stumbled across an accusation that it promotes “counterfeit Catholicism”.

What is this about?

Can’t comment, EM… unless you provide the source (a link, possibly? Or “who” said it… or where you read it, etc.) to back this up. The question is vague.

Anyone else heard this? I certainly haven’t.🤷

EWTN’s doing something right, because both sides complain about it. People on the Progressive side sometimes accuse it of being too rigidly orthodox, while people on the Traditional side (usually WAY Traditional) accuse it of being a little squishy on the faith.

I’ve read the criticisms, but I won’t post any links. I’m sure an internet search will turn up plenty. I think Mother Angelica has given the Church an amazing gift. There’s no telling how many souls have been saved as a result of the EWTN TV and radio networks.

Your site refers to Fr. Gruner
EWTN has this to say about him.
,Finally, in recent years there has been a certain lack of clarity regarding the priestly status of Fr. Gruner. According to the the Congregation for the Clergy, his priestly faculties (jurisdiction permitting celebration of the sacraments) have been suspended and his appeal of that suspension rejected by the highest Church court, the Apostolic Signature. However, I understand that he continues to publicly celebrant the sacraments, justifying it by arguments for the canonical invalidity of his suspension. What efforts he is making to settle this matter is not known.

If you don’t watch EWTN, try it, you’ll love it.

I have heard EWTN criticized by some traditionalist leaning Catholics for some of the shows on sexuality. From what I can see however EWTN is presenting authentic Catholic teaching in this area. EWTN has been a gift from God.

Actually, there are a lot of questions about Fr. Gruner. If you want the official Fatima site you want this:
worldfatima.com/ or this wafusa.org/
These are the sites that have Vatican approval and of which you may become a member and receive blessing for doing so. It is a Public Association of the Faithful. Fr G.'s site you link is full of conspiracy stuff.

BTW, I love EWTN! What a witness for traditional Catholic beliefs. POWERFUL.

EWTN is fantastic. I especially like to watch Father Corapi and Father Benedict Groeschel.

I worked in a nursing home for years. Of the 62 residents only two were Catholic…on any given day 50-60 percent of the television sets werw tuned into EWTN. Not bad for a predominantly Baptist and Dutch reformed area.

I find it very comforting to know that Ultra liberals dislike EWTN and Ultra Conservative neo Trads Dislike EWTN…

Whats its about? Sounds like EWTN is doing their Job quite well by staying in the middle where they always have been…the middle being.“Catholic”

I have a problem when I see Catholics using their time and energy in attacking other Catholics, as this website is doing against EWTN.

A quote from the article:
Offensive rock music, charismatic lunacy, Communion in the hand, ecumenical indifferentism, “Hebrew Catholicism”, utterly shocking discussion of sexuality and sexual sins…
Are these the worst things that they can come up with? When you start reading stuff like how receiving Communion in the hand is bad- you know you’re not reading something bona fide Catholic.

This lady at mass gave me this one newsletter about Marian apparitions and it had quotes from “Mary” saying that she only approves of Catholics receiving the Eucharist from the hands of a consecrated priest and that Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are an abomination and stuff. Obviously I threw the newsletter away because you know Our Lady would never say anything against what the Church officially teaches and practices.

I’m sure EWTN is not perfect… but it is definitely trustworthy.

EWTN has a lot to offer, many great shows. I am surprised
that it gets complained about. I love the fact that there is a
24 hour Catholic network. It has given me so much,
expanded my faith knowledge and has provided strength
and comfort too.

EWTN has helped me through some tough times.

The “rad-trads” remind me of the fundamentalists that I used to run across as a protestant. Same message (hate, ignorance, and pride), different wording and through a “message” from Mary in there somewhere.

Could someone tell me how it is sinful to discuss human sexuality when it is done in the light of the Word and Church teaching? (rhetorical). We all know that EWTN is just a shameless cesspool of gratuitously sexual television shows aimed at corrupting the apparently clueless faithful.

I think that might be the common quality between the “rad-trads” and fundies: everyone except them (including the Magisterium) missed the boat on just about every issue.

Lord, have mercy.

I have been listening to EWTN on Satellite Radio and enjoy all to information on the Catholic Faith that I have heard.

I love EWTN! Even tho’ I may not always agree (personally) with all on it, I am so glad it’s there!! The vast majority is the most wonderful evangelization and catechesis.👍

There are some very good programs on there and some very bad ones. Since Mother Angelica was basically kicked out, it’s gone downhill.

I’m sorry but it’s scandalous that I cannot just accidentally flip the channel to EWTN while my children are in the room because every other show now appears to be about sex.

Same rules should apply to EWTN as should apply to sex education in schools. Matters should be treated with reverence and delicacy in such a way that you do not have to run and cover your childrens’ ears as you hear people for example snickering and laughing on “Life on the Rock” about their sexual escapades in college (as they describe them in explicit detail).

I don’t know when YOU turn on EWTN, but I’ve never heard such.

I only get to watch it via Computer webcast. I wish our Cable company would drop TBN for EWTN
