I don’t know where to put this thread. I don’t hate Mexicans but let’s be honest we know how Mexicans are seen in the United States and I feel like there is an absence of God’s love in my life since I look like a Mexican. It is bad enough that I am autistic and am diagnosed with bipolar. My sister is not autistic or bipolar and God blessed her more by making her look white. I am grateful for what God has done for me but still. Still it feels like God could have made things easier for me by making me look more white or at least more Puerto Rican looking.
- Mexican is not a race 2) Puerto Rican is not a race. There are White Puerto Ricans, and White Mexicans.

I am of White and Amerindian descent, but my cousins in Mexico have no Indian blood. (I also have an ex girlfriend whose father’s family is Puerto Rican, and she was quite adamant she is white, but not until I pointed out Hispanics are not a race). God loves you no matter how you look. I used to get mistaken for a Mexican quite often (since 60-75% of Mexicans are Mestizo, mixed European and AmerIndian, and other than gray eyes, I resemble a Northern Mexican Mestizo, I am not surprised, nor offended. Didn’t help Grandpa was part Spanish). Ever gone to a Spanish Mass? You see Grey eyed Mestizos like me. You see black Cubans and Mulatto Dominicans. You see White Costa Ricans. You see people who look like me (even though my Spanish ancestry linguistic link is distant). You see Italian-Argentines, and German descended Latin Americans of all sorts. You see Spaniards, some dark, some light. I never had Spanish in high school, but my homeroom teacher was an Afro-Boriqua, and she was the Spanish teacher. You see American Indian Bolivians, and Japanese Peruvians. And do you know what those people have in common, other than language and Catholicism? God loves them all. I am wearing an Our Lady of Guadalupe T-Shirt at this time, not because I am Mexican (I’m not), not because I am a Mestizo (though I am), not even because I have a devotion to her (though I do). But because I am Catholic. Because I am a Christian. Our Lady got to experience the joy of knowing Christ in a personal way we can only imagine. And if it weren’t for her, Catholicism would not exist on this continent we call America. Hispanic or Anglo. Gentile or Jew. Black, White, Yellow, Red, or something in between, we are Christians, and God is our father. We needn’t worry what other people think about our Colour or our ethnic background. We need only worry that we are doing God’s will. Just my take. God bless.
