I think I have to read it again because I was treating it all like a checklist. Any thoughts on how I should approached it? Or should I just read it as it is?

Oftentimes a guided study of the Cathesim is offered through area dioceses.I took such a study three years ago through a local parish. It was titled The Four Pillars. The instructor was a professor at the Augustine Institute here in Denver. It took about a year and a half to go through this course but so worth it.I gained such a good understanding of our Cathoic faith.I highly recommend this to anyone interested in learning and growing in the faith.

That reminds me, there is the wonderful Agustine Institute offering “ECHO”

“The ECHO series from Ahava Productions will be a 36 part video-based study of the United States Catholic Catechism of Adults (USCCA) presented by Bishop Donald Hying of Gary, Indiana. These short and engaging videos introduce each chapter of the USCCA and provide an inspiring start to personal or group study of our rich Catholic Faith”

You can view the series on Formed.org (many parishes offer this free to their parishioners, or, it is about $10 to subscribe on your own. Like NetFlix but Catholic!)

The USCCA is available to read for free at: United States Catholic Catechism for Adults

The Newman Connection also has an online class that goes through the YOUCAT Exploring YouCat - Newman Connection

Maybe set a plan of doing 10 paragraphs per day. There is so much good stuff in it, but I’m not certain about reading the whole thing. You could also pick out sections to read and jump around. I don’t see harm in that.

I like the section on prayer. It’s pretty good. Good reading for lent, too.

(BTW, there are 2,856 numbered paragraphs in the catechsim, so 10 per day is 286 days. So then you would have it read in one year.

If you are talking about the “real” Catechism (not the Catechism for Adults, Catechism for Teens, etc.) then I think you have 2 options:
  1. Cover to cover. But be prepared for it to take a lot of time.
  2. A section at a time, based on something that interests you right at that time.
The CCC is a beautifully written book, heavy on scripture and deep in insight. Enjoy!

If you are talking about the “real” Catechism (not the Catechism for Adults, Catechism for Teens, etc.)
You do realize that there are many Catechisms written for different people in different places and different times, don’t you? The USCCA and YouCat are as “real” as the Baltimore Catechism or the Compendium of the Catechism.

Since I actually mentioned them in my reply, yes, I realize that.

My answer depended on which catechism was being referred to. My answer was for the full CCC, which I referred to tongue in cheek as “the real” one.

Are you trying to start a fight?
