I found an anti-Catholic tract on my car windshield

I find these tracts in the most unusual places; stuck in a crevice of a gas pump at the filling station, stuck in a picture frame when I was looking for some in Dollar General…and quite a few I’ve just found on the ground. If there is an address on the tract, I take the opportunity to answer all their questions and correct all their errors (in a charitable way, of course). It’s a good exercise for me to defend the faith a chance to do my part to spread the truth. Once you you’ve answered one tract you can almost use it for all the rest with slight modifications. It’s a simple cut and paste then edit. Never have got a reply, though. :hmmm:

wow, i actually think that’s pretty awesome, obviously if it were not anti-Catholic literature. I’m trying to do something similar with these pro-life action cards from life dynamics (check them out! only 2.50 for 100 and you can get a sample set free lifedynamics.com/Abortion_Information/Pro-life_Product/?id=14 ) Mark Crutcher told us about this lady who would put them in all the pockets of clothes at the store and another who put them in all the books (except children’s) at Barnes and Noble (he got angry calls from both locations). But I had never thought of putting them in gas pumps and pic. frams. usually I leave them with tips on in waiting rooms or on restaurant tables. You have to admire their dedication, if anything!

I feel the same way, from the context it doesn’t seem to fit:

*"*Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again." (John 3:3-7)

In verse 3 Jesus states that we must be born again or we cannot enter the kingdom.

Nicodemus in verse 4 is puzzled because he is thinking of biological birth from the womb.

In verse 5 Christ is speaking about the new birth, which he mentioned in verse 3, not the biological birth that Nicodemus is thinking of. The new birth in which without we cannot enter the kingdom. Making the water mentioned verse five part of the new birth and having nothing to do with amniotic fluid. “Except a man be born of water and spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.”

I dont know what else to say about that passage specifically. If you keep reading you will see verse 22 which is perfectly in context of that passage.

22 After this Jesus and his disciples went into the land of Judea; there he remained with them and baptized. 23 John also was baptizing at Ae’non near Salim, because there was much water there; and people came and were baptized.

That article does explain things better. I’m surprised that I can’t find a Catholic Apologist who actually responds to the Protestant interpretation that states the water mentioned is amniotic fluid. But from my reading of the passage it doesn’t make sense because the water he mentions is part of the new birth (aka being born again). Even Martin Luther could not deny how clear scripture taught baptismal regenearation.

I did see though in the article it mentions that scripture fails to interpret water as amniotic fluid. Thanks Eden!

I’ve never yet been given an anti-Catholic tract. Quite a few people have said they don’t understand why I’ve become Catholic but no one has tried to talk me out of it or even give me a tract. It’s just not fair at all!

In answer to all the questions in the tract, all my answers are “yes” apart from the last question to which the anwers is “eternal life”. I suspect those answers will be common among Catholics here.

I had to laugh - is that a typo in the reproduction of the tract or in the original tract? The prayer at the end makes it look like you would be asking Jesus to sign the tract for you and mail it off.
 
The best way to deal with anti-Catholic tracts, especially the Jack Chick and Tony Alamo type, is simply to gather them up and deposit them in the nearest covered trash can.

And if you have any doubt about whether you’re doing the right thing, take a brief moment to read them first.

Salvation guaranteed by simply reciting the sinners prayer? :nope:

That booklet is good, but far too long and expensive to drop on windshields. A “droppable” tract needs to be something that can be read in less than 5 minutes, with a ‘Things that make you go hmmmmm’ message and a reply address/phone number.

“Pillar of Fire” is best dropped in waiting rooms where magazines are left.
