I found an excellent guide to the Mass Translation!

I’ve been researching the new translation of the Mass pretty much from the day I heard one was coming and I have several resources on it so far.

I have, however, found, what I think will prove to be one of the best sources for most all of us.

My parish has it in its Lighthouse Catholic Media display for a very nominal donation of $5.00.

It’s called A Walk Through the New Mass Translation by Dr. Edward Sri and it includes an excellent booklet and a detachable card that gives all the responses that will be needed for the people.

I highly recommend these 2 resources to any and all who wish to be prepared for the new translation of the Mass that goes into effect November 27th, the first Sunday in Advent.

Dr. Sri’s hour long talk is very very good and I found it inspirational on many points that I had not really thought of before.

Yeah, that’s the CD by itself, the booklet is $2.00 more if they have it.

The CD is excellent though and I really recommend them both.
 
Thanks for this resource. i will take a look tomorrow and then see if our priest would be interested in getting these. I was getting concerned as nothing much is being said about this upcoming change.
 
Well Jimmy Akin has his excellent book, which I also have on my comp (through Amazon’s free app Kindle for PC), but this seems like the kind of resource that every English speaking Catholic can easily get and benefit from.

You might order both and then take them to your pastor and/or your RE director.

The CD, booklet, and the Akin book are all available at my parish. Our diocese has also been doing a series of talks (rotating parishes) on the changes. We will be going to the meeting at our parish next week. Music folks are also getting geared up.

Yeah, Our parish has 2 sets of video classes beginning soon as well as this CD/booklet set as well. I did notice some slightly different music last Sunday but not being in the choir, I haven’t heard if it is related to the new liturgy.
 
I also have two books (and I’m working on a third, on the Eucharistic Prayers) about the Mass and the new translation. Full of scriptural annotations, Catechism references, Church Father commentary, etc.

Here is a great four part series of lectures on the new translation in the new Roman Missal. It walks through the Mass explaining the changes and why they are being made. The best part is that they are all free.

We ordered them through Lighthouse Catholic Media earlier this summer. We ordered 10 for the kiosk display, and those were sold out in a few days.

Lighthouse was offering a deal on the CD and booklets, if ordered in quantity. I don’t know if they’re still doing this now.

You might mention this to whoever is in charge of your display and see if they can get more. There’s still about 11 weeks 'til the change kicks in.

I got an extra copy and sent it to my best friend who expressed some distress because he’s never known any other Mass.

No need. Starting on Oct 3rd at 7 PM, Father M will be giving 7 lectures. We’ll be using this book: “Mystical Body, Mystical Voice: Encountering Christ in the Words of the Mass
by Christopher Carstens & Douglas Martis”. The parish is ordering the book at a bulk discount.

A blurb from our bulletin: “This fall, in preparation for the revised Roman Missal in English, I will offer a series of seven lectures. We’ll discuss the nature and meaning of Catholic liturgy, the meaning and nature of sacrament and sign, the nature of the Catholic Mass and the history and meaning of the prayers in the Mass.”

Father’s lectures are well attended. He’s a former teacher, who loves to teach. Starting last year, he’s been pro-active about the changes to the translation of the Mass. He brought in a guest lecturer, a professor nun from one of the seminaries. She went over a word for word translation, historical context, and why the words needed to change. He mentions the change in our bulletin quite often.

This May I took a class that was called A Biblical Walk Through the Mass. That’s the title of a book by Dr. Sri. He is good. In his book, Dr. Sri covers some of the changes in the wording of the profession of faith. He doesn’t cover them all though. I’ll bet this book that you are recommending does go over all of the changes!!!

“Mystical Body, Mystical Voice” is more thorough than “A Biblical Walk Through the Mass”.

My books are more thorough too! They cover everything except the variable parts: the Collect (opening prayer), Prayer over the Offerings, the Preface (in between the Preface dialog and the Sanctus) and Post-Communion Prayer. The Eucharistic Prayers (10 of them!) have their own book (still in the works…) which will include the Prefaces for EP II, IV, and the EPs for Various Needs (I-IV).
 
Thank you, everyone! I took a class at our parish on the new translation but was wanting to get a little deeper so these references are just what I was looking for. I’m especially excited to get the materials by Dr. Sri. I’ve read his book, “Men, Women and the Mystery of Love: Practical Insights from John Paul II’s Love and Responsibility” and found it very well done- easy to understand for ‘regular people’ (non-theologians).
