I found an old quartz crystal

I’m not sure where else to ask this but here is my question in case any one here has some answers.

I was cleaning my room after moving over the summer and I came across a few articles that I had misplaced and some that I had not seen in years or months. Among them was a quartz crystal, which was among the articles I had not seen in several years. This one though I believe may have belonged to a relative who used to utilize quartz crystals (among other articles) for purposes of witchcraft and similar practices.

My question is: I don’t want to give it back to this person (for fear they’ll lapse into those types of practices once more). But what do I do with it? Should I keep it or give it away or possibly have it blessed? I’m possibly just being scrupulous about this, but I’m just concerned as to what to do with it given its history of previous uses.

A priest suggests to dispose of it, but I do love crystals. However, it is tempting given that it will be an occasion of sin if found by my relative, and I also kind of feel akward with it given its history.

MICHAEL

If you know what it might have been used for, I think you can spray Holy Water on it, and bury it … or let it sink to a river or a lake near by so that you are not tempted to get it back. 🙂

God made the crystal to start with.

You can admire it and keep it as a thing of beauty and not as an occult artifact.

If in doubt, sprinkle it with Holy Water and claim it back for Jesus.

It’s best in this situation to sprinkle it with holy water, smash it if possible (I don’t know if quartz is too hard to smash with a hammer) and bury it.

Better to get rid of it than to risk having an item used in witchcraft in your possession, or having it lead to a relative’s return to witchcraft. Demons can be attracted to objects, especially items that were used in occult practices.

Frankly I agree with the priest. Throw it out.

When I was younger I spent some time dabbling in witchcraft. After I had come back to Christ I gathered up all of the occult things, put them into a box, taped it up, tied it up into a couple of trash bags and threw it into a dumpster. I then prayed that God would keep the evil materials from getting to anyone else. It felt so good to have those things out of my home.

While it is true, that crystals and rocks are part of God’s creation… I would have to agree with your priest. Given the “history” of this particular crystal… I would definitely get rid of it, Michael. God bless.

It is a beautiful object and certainly part of God’s good creation. While it is very tempting for me to keep it I am also leaning to disposing of it given its history. I’m still debating one way or the other. The reason is this relative lives with me and if this person finds that object in my room they may well usurp it for ‘magical’ purposes and I’m not that good at hiding objects (an unfortunate weakness of mine). I may well just use holy water for it for now and keep it for the mean time until I decide what to do with it. I’m wondering if anyone would think it prudent or charitable for me to give it to a friend? I don’t know, I think this is a simple issue to resolve but since I’ve never been in this situation I just want to be sure I make the right decisions.

I agree with Cluny, but I also agree with the rest who agree to dispose of it. The reason being it has been associated with the occult and it will be a temptation for my relative to use it for such purposes if found (I can only hide it for so long, unfortunately, since I’m sure she’ll find it since we share the same house et al). I love crystals and rocks in general, I used to collect them as a kid. I wish I could keep it and I would love to. Normally I would. I’m still leaning towards keeping it in a way.

I know a Southern Baptist minister I’ve known for years. He said to first of all pray for that person who was involved in the occult and also to destroy the crystal because of its association with the occult et al. He further commented on the fact that here in my hometown, witchcraft is common. It is. Superstition prevails even among self professed devout Christians. Chain letters, ‘devotion’ to the ‘Santa Muerte’, and other like matters are common and widespread. Often people use things as ‘good luck charms’ without thinking much of it and in fact get involved in the occult. I see people who have images of the Buddha or Hindu gods in their homes or cars. My relative was among those (and on occasion still utilizes them).

As much as I would love to keep it and really really want to, I think it would be best to destroy it, after sprinkling it with holy water possibly.

Dude, just get rid of it.
I agree with this. Michael… if you live near the ocean or another body of water… go chuck it in! It’s not like you’d be throwing garbage or refuse in and polluting the water, or anything. Let God deal with it, from there.

This is very good advice.

If it were me, I’d use Holy Water on it and then bury it. I don’t know what I would do if I was as strong in my faith as St. Teresa of Avila, who laughed at demons and treated them as if they were flies.🤷

A quartz crystal does not have any big intrinsic value. Just follow the advice of the priest and get rid of it. Afterward, if you really like crystals go to a story that sells geological items and by some rocks there.

True, but if they’ve been used for occult purposes, there could be a demonic attachment to them.
Which is why I’ve been concerned about it. I will have to look for crystals elsewhere but this one I will have to let go off, as I do believe it’s best so as to let my conscience be at peace. Even if I am being ‘scrupulous’ about it (as I said in the beginning), I don’t want to risk possessing an object which has in the past been used for occult purposes, hence likely still having demonic attachments.

Its a rock, nothing more, nothing less, its not infected by demons or bewitched by renfaire rejects. if you don’t want it, toss it somewhere. Don’t obsess about it – the obsession is the worst thing about it.

I would sprinkle it with holy water and then throw it away or smash it with a hammer.
