WRONG.

He is entrusted with holding and distributing THE BODY OF CHRIST. That is an enormous responsibility. He knows full well that what he did was wrong, otherwise he would not be here asking for help. Letting him off the hook is not going to provide the learning experience that needs to happen here, on a number of levels. The friend needs to be informed that he can’t receive, the priest needs to know this has happened, EMHC need to be properly trained, Alex needs to address this from his own personal perspective.

Liza! He feels bad is the point…he needs do connnfession we don’t NEED to bloody him up…and yes it is big responsibility…but pity sake Liza…how many of use have frozen up…chocked at bat and did something wrong…kid…in my 40+ years I’ve learned something the only true mistakes are the ones ya don’t learn from and tighten the screws and do confession talk to the Baptist…maybe he had confusion…maybe a priest needs to speak to him…in short…you know ya did wrong…i dislike redundancy …the fact you know you struck out. Give me hope…you’ll be ok!!! It’s like a sport…you know…you ride the bat high you see it’s throwing your balance…so…fix it and move on…The Holy Spirit Convicts ya of sin mate! But it’s the devil who wants you to wallow in it…don’t wallow…wipe of the muck in a good confession…pray a rosary Ask for intent to be a good steward!!! You’ll be ok…

Dcn FAB Quite frankly I’m shocked  that you take this so lightly. Yes, we know that at funerals and weddings many non-Catholics will attend but this is our Precious Lord that we are talking about and not just “something that happens”. It is the duty of the priest AND the deacon to assure that this is something that DOES NOT happen. You know very well that many non-Catholics attend funerals and weddings so it needs to be mentioned that only Catholics in the state of grace approach to receive our Lord. You can’t, as a deacon say, “Oh, its something that happens”.
Keep in mind, the EMHC’ s are not expected to judge the souls involved, nor are priests or deacons. For example, let’s say that one of the protestants at a Mass is a fallen away Catholic. Let’s say they received Reconciliation before Mass. The Priest, Deacon or EMHC may not be aware of it. It would not be their place to refuse that person. In that case it would be a valid reception, without the knowledge of the minister. I am not saying that this is the case in Alex’s situation, nor a common occurrence. My point is that, while they are charged to protect the Blessed Sacrament, they cannot control everything. If somebody comes forward to receive, it is assumed that they are Catholic, in a state of Grace, and understand the situation. If Alex had not known the person, it would have gone unnoticed. Alex was put in a bad situation, but it is still his responsibility to refuse someone he knows is non-Catholic. The Priest should make an announcement prior to communion letting everyone know about closed communion. In the end, it is the fault of the person who receives unworthily. Alex’s friend should have been more respectful.

We would do well to listen to a few more homilies about staying in the state of grace and not receiving the Eucharist when in Mortal Sin. It seems like our lines at the confessionals are short, but our communion lines are long… Or, maybe everyone else does a better job, living the Christian life than me.🤷
