Recently returned to Catholicism, I’m back with my 13 yo daughter… Wife, 16 yo son and 22 yo step daughter basically want nothing to do with God.

The more I dig in with God, prayer, etc the more life gets difficult. Last night was the worst I really think relationship with my son, my marriage etc is done for this time…

I have nothing left in my tank…

Don’t give up. It may be hard but God knows that. There have been many saints that have practised their faith in the face of opposition from loved ones.
God will open their hearts in time but He wants yours, completely.
God has to come first, always, before spouses and children. The rest will follow.
I will pray for you, God bless

This is my opinion only, take it for what it’s worth. Don’t give up, that’s exactly what Satan wants. I’m sure he sees you as someone who can spead the Love of God to the rest of your family and he is going to do EVERYTHING he can to make that not happen. Unfortunatly, I do not know of many teenagers/young adults that have God at the top of their life. I know I didn’t when I was a teenager. Let your actions speak louder than your words.

Maybe you have already done this, but without talking about God directly ask them what they do believe. Do they believe in creationism, or evolution? Get a conversation started without putting them on the defensive. I’m sure there are resources out there for you. I would ask Fr. Serpa or one of the other apologists about some recommended resources.

REMEMBER NOTHING IS IMPSSIBLE FOR GOD!

I hope I didn’t sound to preachy, sorry if I did. I will be praying for you and your family.

HI there, thanks for the response and thanks for all the other prayer requests folks!

No you don’t sound preachy, I appreciate the (name removed by moderator)ut. I totally agree that young adults don’t have God at the top of their lives.

The biggest issue is my wife. She resents the Catholic Church. Her 1st marriage was annulled, I think she wants out of this one also, she certainly acts like it, and feels annulments are foolish and people should just be allowed to divorce when they feel like.

Its funny We switched to an Evangelical Church for a while I think she thought divorce might be easier there but that didn’t work out. I was a cradle Catholic and left cuz my faith was dead, we joined an Evangelical Church and that was great for a few years but my wife lost interest. I tried everything to get her involved and she just didn’t want to stick with it. I eventually gave up and decided to REALLY figure out what I believe which led me back here to the Catholic Church, I don’t regret that.

I think I mistyped in my original post. I will NOT give up on God, what I meant is my marriage and family are hopeless. My son and step daughter are out of control and if my wife is not working she’s in bed, even the kids comment on it. She’s been to drs, they didn’t help, we went to marriage counseling and the marriage counselor told us after 4 years she couldn’t do anything for us. We went to Marriage Builders type things and they worked for a while but we always end up here.

I’ve learned a lot thought all this and have gotten a lot better (I by no means perfect, and I’m not trying to say that). Things always end up a mess, whenever I’m involved with Church it’s a LOT worse…

I have no where to go excpet God and while I’m sure he’ll see me through whatever, I’m scared about the current prospects, loosing my relationship with me kids and divorce etc. It’s not pretty…

As to your empty dry feeling, I have walked where you have. Teenagers are still children and correspondingly they will say and do things children do. When I started my conversion to Catholitism my son who was 15-16 had a real hard time with it. He is almost 19 now and he is more civil about it. I am hopeful he will go to mass with me soon, some 3 plus years later.

I have a brother that at first took it very badly, but I had a sister that was supportive even though she is non-denomination protestent. You need to have some support. Ask your priest to help direct you to someone in your parish that can help you. There are others that will willingly help you, finding them seems hard at first.

Something that helped me with my seculsion was to do my rosary and have a specific intention for each bead. For example: Bead One may be for my wife to accept my new faith, Bead Two your son, Bead Three Your Daughter, Bead Four Your Friends. Ask the Holy Souls to pray for you as you pray for them.

And even if your dry hollow feeling lasts a long time, know that Jesus and the Blessed Virgin Mother love you. God bless you.:signofcross:

One piece of advice is to plant the seed of faith by letting them see that your faith is what is behind you being a better more loving husband and father. I am not saying that you were not before just saying right now especially for your kids actions speak louder than words.

You are in my prayers also.

So since I’ve come back, and this is kind of rough but the gist of my intentions
  • i pray the LOTH (minimally MP and EP, occasionally NP)
  • almost daily rosary
  • i try to go to reconcillation monthly
  • communion weekly
  • if i can’t make reconcillation monthly I don’t go to communion
i couldn’t bring myself to say the rosary this AM (after last night) on my commute into work so i listened to it, Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious mysteries (i have a long commute)

now i’m throwing in fasting as well.

the closer i get to God the worse it gets…

Keep the Faith

Praying very hard for you and your family! I’m impressed with your perseverance, and pray that you will keep plugging away! God bless you!

There is a family in my parish: Catholic husband, non-Catholic wife, 3 kids. When I first met them 6 years ago, they were a mess. Kids up to all kinds of trouble, mean wife, but a devout father who kept praying and praying and praying. We all assumed the kids would end up in jail and the marriage in divorce. But here we are 6 years later, and through the CONSTANT prayers of this father, the kids are all back on track, back in the Church–2 were even confirmed recently. It brings my heart such joy when I see them. I am unsure of how the marriage is going, but I write this to say: if this dad could pull this off with God, so can you. He went to hell and back, he just never gave up. Don’t be discouraged, you are doing all the right things. I will pray for you every time I see this family… God bless.

The devil is beating you down. Don’t let him win.
I too pray the LOTH. I love this part of the NP (you may be missing, but read it slowly and God will give you the strength for one more day)

Concluding Night Prayer—

Lord Jesus Christ,
you have given your followers
an example of gentleness and humility,
a task that is easy, a burden that is light.
Accept the prayers and work of this day,
and give us the rest that will strengthen us
to render more faithful service to you
who live and reign for ever and ever.
–Amen

Be that example of patience and gentleness and humility to your family. Give those troubles to God and He will make your burden light. Your strength will come from His strength, your patience through His. Consecrate your family to Jesus through Mary.
Start with one child. Plant the seeds. As that child’s eyes are open the others will know what is right and written on their heart.
I will pray for. Keep your faith and strength in God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit will come upon your family in great ways. Fruit takes a long time to grow but, once the tree is established it will bear fruit always.

Stay strong and keep us updated,

Paul

Loving the Lord our God above all things, is not easy…but not impossible. I’m carrying a huge spiritual and emotional cross right now, but I’m hanging in there with everything that I have. Pray a novena to Saint Rita of Cascia, this saint has helped me carry my cross. I read a lot of saints’ lives, It helps me to understand what the life of a catholic really is about and I find there a lot of tools that help me along the way. When the going gets tuff:confused: , tell the Lord " I TRUST IN YOU" even if you don’t really believe it in the moment, but surrender into those words “Lord I Trust in You”. There is peace and strength in those words.

May the Lord your God save you and protect you. May the Lord your God strengthen you and guide you. May the Lord, your Father, keep you close to His sacred Heart, while you cross through this valley of darkness. Repeat psalm 23 over and over

God your Father is holding you

Whizkid43:

You have to stay strong especially when times are rough. These times you will realize later on were the best times in bringing you closer to christ…you just have to weather out the storm right now and listen to god and what he has to tell you.

Trust me everything will be alright as long as you trust and have faith in the lord.

I’m praying for you.

Prayerfully,

Renato

Praying for your intentions…Hang in there, the enemy is coming against you, big time! Pray to Saint Michael.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and in the hour of our death. Amen.

Saint Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who wander throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
