Not as a transfer of the official one, no. But if you need rest, get your rest!

You will always get some conflicting answers on this site. It is the nature of the beast (discussion boards). Also, the rule is not absolute in this case. Somebody has to watch over electrical plants, jails, pharmacy, etc. You need to discern/pray about where your situation falls on the spectrum of “I have to do this” to “I’m just ignoring God’s plans”.

Don’t forget Holy Days qualify for the rest rule, too (I mean like All Saints).

Nope. God’s law is the same for everyone.
Sorry, I assumed too much from your posts. Of course the OP needs to keep God’s law - I just assumed that your post was implying that he couldn’t do that job and keep God’s law at the same time.

We don’t even know what the job is - say it was for a doctor’s position, do you think that God would put a ban on healing on the sabbath?

To fully understand God’s law I think you need to be in the Catholic Church, since it is the only one that goes all the way back to the time of Jesus.

There’s an abiding value in Sunday in the Christian life. Catholics are “are obliged in conscience to arrange their Sunday rest in a way which allows them to take part in the Eucharist, refraining from work and activities which are incompatible with the sanctification of the Lord’s Day, with its characteristic joy and necessary rest for spirit and body.” (John Paul II, Dies Domini, 67). Do you have other options? If so, take them. Sunday is the Lord’s Day.

I always like when people are absolute on this Sunday thing. The Japanese pulverized us on December 7, 1941 because, even in full evidence of imminent war, the US Pacific forces were are stand down for a Sunday. My point absolutism in keeping the sabbath in some line of work can and does get people killed as it did then. Of course this is an example in the extreme. Remember Three Mile Island? Should folks put off the radiation leak for a day?

Then there is the inevitable “your job is not of that magnitude is it?” question. I say this as I am at an academic library. If I quote Absolutes at supervisors, and I know this because when I have pushed the issue of having Easter off, the fact my job description requires my pressence is pointed out. Meaning work Sundays or your fired. I have been looking for other jobs, I am not finding them. As far as the absolutist here that would have you quit or be fired. You are so far from the spirit of the sabbath to have a man go without heath insurance and burden his elderly father when his own health problems build after losing access to health care. This is not charitable at all. Finally if not yourself and your children, who is out there on Sunday at malls, restaurants, libraries, sporting events? Let us just say these businesses are not open because workers are standing around. Now with things such as more high tech in malls and more banks open all week, your children might never see a Sunday off. Infact as where I am at. many workers must work Saturday and Sunday. Speak up and risk your well being.
