I got a book that was technically stolen as gift. What to do?

A teacher of mine got a book - a grammar manual - from a school - he lied saying he needed it to elaborate classes, but it was for me, and he told me the day before he gave me it - that had a lot of them just sitting abandoned. It has been some months since then…

What should I do in regard to this?

It doesn’t appear to me that this was stolen at all. He asked for a surplus book. They gave it to him. that’s not stealing.

You are in his class, and therefore he is using it for his class. So, I don’t see the issue.

If you often find yourself concerned about things like this as sins, you need to talk to your priest about it, not poll the internet. You are seeing sins where there are none.

If you are in his class, and the school gave it to him in order to help his students, how is this book stolen?

Is there another way you can phrase the idea of “elaborate classes”?

Otherwise, if a teacher asked for a book from a school, saying he needed it to teach a class, and he gave it to a student to help them in the class, then that doesn’t seem to be a problem on the surface. In some school districts, books are replaced periodically after x years of use, and they buy the latest-and-greatest version from the academic publishers. So those older books end up getting thrown in the trash, sold at book sales, given out to whoever wants to grab a copy, etc…

He might not have been specific about his exact intentions-- “I need this book to teach class” vs “I have a student who needs this book” --but ultimately, it sounds like the book was destined for the dumpster, he asked for permission to take it, and now he’s passed it on to you to make use of.

1)He gave me for personal studies.
2)I’m not his student anymore.Just finished high school.
3)Elaborate classes = research didactic content.

I would not worry about this. If there is a moral problem, it is not yours.
