Pray for her. You never know what’s going on behind her comments. I look back on my life and realize that often the times when I’ve made the dumbest, most insensitive comments are when I was at my lowest and most insecure. That said, I’m sorry it happened to you.

When I hear stuff like that I always wonder at what it must have been like to be in a Church when it was just getting established in Rome, or maybe in Ireland. I have this imaged of a tattooed Celt recieving the sacraments. 😉
Ur so awesome. I am from a Celtic background, and St Patrick is my confirmation saint. Thank you for that mental pic 🙂

Thank you SO much for the replies. Needed them. I am new, but yes, very committed. Whats ironic is, I tone down what I wear, as not to offend. Thankfully Deacon hustled her out, lol, and today at morning Mass, people who don’t usually know I exist, were saying good morning 🙂

Pastor’s wives are reason 113,209 why I’m no longer Protestant.
I would hate to be a Pastor’s wife. My mother teaches painting in her home, and one of her students is a Pastor’s wife. The lady can’t wait for class day so she can sit with other people and be herself. She says she is under constant scrutiny as a Pastor’s wife, and she can relax in her painting class.

😃 Well, at least people know you’re alive now. It sounds like the Deacon has his wife well in hand–literally. 😉

Ur sweet. It did hurt. Easy for me to forgive. Mainly just wanted feedback, not to denigrate anyone. That I have respect for her position was evident in the fact that I kept my mouth shut. Plus I was so shocked, lol…I was thinking, Who does this??

Adding to the interest, I am super attracted to the idea of wearing a mantilla in Mass. Couple ladies in my parish wear them.
Hi RedBasket,

Yes, words do hurt and she was way out of line to say what she did.
Here is where we need to go back to the words in the Lord’s Prayer
and forgive those who have trespassed against us. Just let it go. WE
know she was wrong, so be the bigger person, move on and let it go.

How sad our world would be if we all looked the same way, so keep doing
your thing. Diversity is what the world is all about, and if those in your church
have the weird idea that THEY should be judging others, guess they will get a
big surprise some day. You have EVERY right to be there at Mass just the same
way she has, she is not better than you. There is a guy that attends Sat. afternoon
Mass wearing his motorcycle club leather jacket and boots. He totally looks out of
place, but I really like seeing him there. I like seeing WAY different ( like purple hair,
kid’s in their soccer or baseball uniforms ) and knowing that they ALL stopped the other
things they were doing to come to Mass. To see how totally different all come together
for our Lord. So I would love to see you at any Mass I was attending. 👍
Be at peace friend. :hug1:

People don’t realize how words can hurt. We’re all familiar with “sticks & stones can break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” That’s just not true. They do hurt & often we say nothing. A favorite quote to counter the sticks & stones one is Longfellow’s “A torn jacket is soon mended; but hard words bruise the heart of a child.”

And not just children. Adults hurt, too.

It will be interesting to hear about the reactions of others if you choose to wear a mantilla. Keep us posted. 😃

Bonnie, lol…I never ever set out to rock the boat, but it has happened a couple times. I’m just me.

😃

I admire Pastor’s wives. Wouldn’t want to be one.

One interview on “The Journey Home” had a lady, I think it was Joy Pinto, who had been an Episcopalian pastor’s wife. She laughed and summed it up, I will paraphrase: There is no pleasing the people of God.

That summed it up for me too, and it was good to hear.

That doesn’t mean I think our OP needed to get an earful or a thimbleful of nonsense from anyone at church.
God Bless you RedBasket!

She is lucky she ran into you, sometimes I wish people would pull this stuff with me. Not to Catholic of me, but I can’t stand it when people get all “holier than thou” on others.

Trust me, she is wrong, I wish I went to your parish.
Pick your battles brother. I served also. I know, I know, its a stepchild thing, lol…

Hooah.

I got scolded for wearing a bicycle shirt to mass this morning. Not a tight shirt mind you, very loose and very long. Woman said it didn’t show proper reverence or something. I told the woman I hope God is looking at my soul and not my back. She was wearing flip flops by the way.🤷
FYI I bike to church because my car has over 100,000 mile on it. Also, it saves gas. Every little bit helps.

I remember a homily about an experiment someone did, where a group of people had to pray in a church while someone bounced a ball against the wall of the church. Those who were distracted the least had the most fulfilling faith lives. I made up my mind to turn my heady up to the cross any time I was distracted during Mass (clothing, crying, chewing gum, talking, etc). It’s hard for me to look up at Jesus crucified, fully exposed and wounded and not feel anything but deep gratitude and full reverence, regardless of what anyone is doing, saying or wearing around me.

Incidentally, I am glad you and all your piercings are at Mass. No place in this world I’d rather you be.

Ur so sweet. Ive been to Mass several times before my conversion. In differing cultures. All dress differently. Mexican Mass, totally different music. And the ladies like to dress up! I personally like simplicity, but seeing those ladies is colorful. They wear makeup, jewelry, and gorgeous clothes. I tone down what jewelry I wear, especially for Mass. No one told me to, I made this decision on my own. To live peaceably as much as much as possible. I also think to the ragtag group Jesus chose as friends. One of His closest was a former prostitute. And when she wiped his feet with her hair, how weird was that? We know the responsd of some. Leave her alone, Jesus said.

Forgiveness was never an issue. 😉

Sounds like she needs a life. I hope you looked her up & down - pointedly - without saying anything. 😃

Na Bonnie…my mom schooled me as a kid on situations like this. Rise above it she said.

I wish someone would have fussed at some children at daily mass tonight. They kept running back and forth across the back of the chapel where daily mass is held. When I said something about it afterwards their mom told me that since I was single and past a certain age without a family, that maybe I did not belong in the Catholic Church. She said the Catholic Church is for people with families not for single people who have passed a certain age.

I got a similar response when I suggested to the priest that he should talk with a young mother who, during mass, would toss her child up to make her squeal. In the front pew. Happy child, happy mother, unhappy me. The priest more or less told me to mind my own business.

The woman only came once or twice more, never to be seen again. Maybe someone with more nerve than I had talked to her? 🤷

Wow. The kids that I mentioned are the same ones who a couple of years ago were throwing rocks outside after Sunday Mass and hit my glasses and made them break well I missed two weeks of work with no pay. When I asked her if she was going to help pay for a new pair of glasses and that I was loosing pay from work, she told me that it was my responsibility to have six months salary in savings for when something like what I just posted happens.
