My husband and I had our marriage validated right after 5:00 p.m. Mass tonight, and all I can say is, WOW. Just, WOW.
Quick background: We got married almost 12 years ago, in the Methodist church at my insistence (I was Methodist, he Catholic). But since becoming Catholic myself, the validation of marriage according to the Rite of the Roman Catholic Church was something I deeply wanted for us.
So, with our two official witnesses (a couple who befriended me right after my Easter Vigil acceptance) and their four kids, plus our daughters’ Godparents and their five kids, and several other couples, kids and friends, all standing around us at the altar, Father Paul began the ceremony. And O.M.Gosh I started crying and laughing. At the SAME TIME! As my husband noticed, he got the “oh no, what’s she doing??” look, but that quickly turned to a quivering bottom lip of his own. Even SweetGirlOne, who’s five, started crying “happy tears” as she called them.
SweetGirlTwo, at 1.5 years old, stayed quietly in another girl’s arms while the ceremony took place.
It was just amazing. It was an abbreviated but full-on wedding ceremony (minus the dress and flowers and such) and was so powerful even one of my friends commented on it afterwards. We even got a whole new marriage certificate that our witness friends had to sign, and the hugs and congratulations and blessings from everyone were wonderfully overwhelming.
Wow, simply wow. Wow! Thanks for letting me share!
