I don’t know how long people of good will are going to let the most pro-abortion president in history and hordes of lying feminists get away with putting for the myth of a wage gap. How naive and unthinking are people going to be? If women were getting paid less for the same work, why aren’t employers hiring them? Employers don’t want to make more money now in liberal feminist fantasy land?

The “wage gap” is a MYTH!

cbsnews.com/news/the-gender-pay-gap-is-a-complete-myth/
Please do not bring politics into this. Lying feminists? You are ranting, not discussing.

I know these things happened in the 60’s.
But I also wonder - are women really better off because of the feminist movement, or did we just trade one set of problems for another.

Women were expected to give their husbands sex on demand? Now they are expected to give their boyfriends sex on demand and then abort the child or be a single mother when he abandons her. And studies show that most domestic violence happens in non married live in situations, not in married households. So now that there are a lot more people living with their boyfriends, that is an increasing problem - as is abuse of the woman’s child by another father - also mostly happens by her new boyfriend.

So the women who don’t end up dropping out of school to become single mothers can earn a lot more than women used to be able to make. Or they can have abortions and become emotionally scared.

I’m not saying it wasn’t bad before. I just don’t know if I would say life is now better for ALL women.
So would it better for women to have no choices, not be educated, and have no rights? The feminist movement started way before the sixties.

Why is it when women’s rights and equality are concerned and discussed, women start being blamed for abortion, child abuse and everything else they can be blamed for?

Let’s not rewrite the past to make it prettier than it was.

Not rewriting the past to make it prettier. You probably shouldn’t rewrite it to make it uglier.

I believe that for SOME women things are better off now. But for many women, the problems they face are now worse than before.

Women SHOULD take the responsibility or blame for abortion, because ultimately they are the ones who make the choice. However, men’s behavior has also deteriorated since the feminist movement. It is not women’s fault that men have become pigs, but in asking for birth control and the ability to have sex before marriage, women may have inadvertently wakened a sleeping giant (aka - they’re just giving men what men have always wanted and asking nothing in return).

My problem with feminism is that it focuses only on women without thinking about problems that face all humanity. Poverty - bad. Violence - bad. Disrespect - bad. It’s not just a female thing.

Since there is sin in the world, people will always gravitate toward the least common denominator. In the past, people’s sins materialized in the form of disrespecting entire classes of people. In the present, people’s sins take a more personal aspect when families fall apart, are broken, and become impoverished.

Why is everyone so focused on getting women to earn more, when there are young men in the inner city who are being tempted by gangs and violence and could use an education and a well paying job to lift them out? To me, that would be more important than, say, a middle class female with a college education who is upset that her male coworker makes 5% more than her. If there is an unwed mother who chose life but can’t get a good paying job because she is had to drop out of high school, that’s a cause to get behind. It doesn’t have to be BECAUSE she’s female. It’s because she’s a human.

Easy solution, then. The men who are making 5% more should offer to take pay cuts to bring their pay in line with what is clearly fair for women. Then that extra money can go to help the gang member and unwed mother you were mentioning.

The feminist movement was – and is --about a hell of a lot more than equal pay.

Maybe all of you are too young to remember what it was like before feminism.

It was generally accepted that a man could not rape his wife; they were married, it was his right to have sex with her whenever he wanted.

You were raped? Well, it was probably mostly your fault. You were dressed provocatively, were in the wrong part of town, were probably looking for it, even if you were a nine-year-old girl or a seventy-five-year-old grandmother. And if you go to court to testify against your rapist, you better make sure there’s nothing even the least bit provocative in your past because it’s going to be dragged out and painted in the worst possible light.

Domestic dispute? Well, the cop can see your black eye and broken arm, but this was a family matter and you’ll probably refuse to press charges so there’s not much the police can do.

You’re a female HS athlete? Well, better get used to having substandard athletic facilities, poorer coaching and fewer scholarships available to you.

And it was SOP that men made more money than women. Even today this is true or there would not be so much opposition to allowing access to payroll information. I worked as an admin to senior level executives in a Fortune Fifty company, and as such was privy to a lot of conversations because I blended into the wallpaper. A woman with high potential is looked upon as an anomaly. She has to do more to get the same respect a less qualified man would. There is definitely a good ol’ boys network that doesn’t admit women, but they’re much too smart to let it slip out. After 50 years of feminism, there are only 23 female CEOs in Fortune 500 companies.

Any improvements in the lives of ALL women are due mainly to the feminist movement.

If ANY of these changes have made your life better in any way, it’s rather hypocritical to enjoy the results and then castigate and condemn feminists. Stop listening to Rush and his “feminazi” hyperbole.

I’m Catholic, pro-life and very proud to be a feminist.
Brilliantly stated, Book Worm. I so don’t get why all feminists are labelled as pro abortion. I am all for women’s right and I detest the fact that abortion exists.

Not all feminist are pro-abortion but most probably are.

I actually see your point here. I have often said that the BCP was supposed to empower women, but that it did the opposite. The physical side effects of the pill are numerous, and the worst bit is that many of its long terms effects are kept well hidden. So if you for example you develop insulin resistance after being on the pill for 10 years, most doctors will not know that the BCP could have easily played a part in this:

menstruationresearch.org/2012/10/03/could-use-of-the-pill-be-linked-to-insulin-resistance/

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22811306

Furthermore, since contraception is so easily available, women are completely pressurised into having sex. So much so that anyone who doesn’t want to live with their partner before marriage is often made to feel like a total freak. I was made to feel like there was something wrong with my relationship because I didn’t move in with my boyfriend despite us being together for 4 years before we got engaged. After a year, people started wondering why we hadn’t moved in together. Then, when we bought a house a few months before the wedding, I was again made to feel like a freak for having separate bedrooms. So much for a woman’s right to choose…

Sounds you aren’t taking the fact discrimination exists seriously. It is serious to those of us who were and still are being unfair. It is a societal problem. For some of us gangs and crime are just as serious but all of it is bad. The one thing I do disagree with the feminist movement about is the fact that it’s now easier to have premarital sex, but that was going on before the movement. People have always had sex and had out of wedlock babies but now it’s more acceptable.

Possibly because so many feminists are, themselves, so adamant that any feminist must support abortion.

Women actually are superior in many areas. Don’t they generally have higher verbal IQs and tend to empathize more with people?

The social sciences are areas where women thrive and even outperform men in many of the fields.

This notion that women need to be some housebound stepford wife whose sole purpose in life is to mop floors and pop out babies is so antiquated.

Welcome to the new world, folks.

This is what happens when people who are not part of or educated/knowledgable about a group make statements for said group like it is fact. I know many, many pro life feminists. I can think of several off the top of my head who are doula’s, certified midwives, or child care providers. These women are on the front line of the pro life cause, with action.

Yes! And there are also many, many feminists who educate and fight against the evils of pornography. When I studied to be a rape crisis volunteer I learned all about these brave souls. They are up against a society that often brands those who are against pornography as “repressed”.

But the popular, known and vocal feminists are not.
Scan this list especially the current ones and you will find many many pro choice feminists. Second and third wave feminism practically is defined by it. I am sorry, but the term has been hijacked and to misrepresent modern feminism as pro life will only serve to come back to destroy the cause.

second-wave feminism broadened the debate to a wide range of issues: sexuality, family, the workplace, reproductive rights,
Second wave feminism.

This article shows how so called pro life feminism is on the fringe of the feminist movement and is shunned by mainstream feminism.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pro-life_feminism
You can see that it keeps getting more and more hijacked.

It would appear that first wave is what some of the people here are talking about. And that is long gone. Suffrage equal pay and all that.

Women need to rid themselves of the twisted and manipulative feminists that are insisting on killing more women than they protect. (in the womb)

My Jewish progressive girlfriend says that feminism is so passé. Women have overtaken men in college enrollment, they outperform men in many of the social science fields, and they are generally more empathetic. They still have to battle workplace discrimination, sexual harassment, and unequal pay but we are definitely entering a woman’s world.

Just compare the amount of coverage and attention given to breast cancer as opposed to prostate cancer. Look how most advertisement is geared toward women. I don’t think us men are holding them back anymore. Some of the most resistant to this unavoidable cultural shift are older conservative women. I find that fascinating.

And for all you traditional men out there- your wife is a lot smarter than you isn’t she?

I just realized that my previous post could be deemed as insensitive to the feminist/women movements in oppressive regimes. Obviously I was speaking from a Western perspective.

It’s utterly depressing that in a large chunk of the world women are considered chattel and not independent human beings.

No offense was intended to those women fighting against real oppression.

In a CNN appearance, Genevieve Wood blasted the White House for promoting the myth that women are paid significantly less than men because of their sex, rather than their career or life choices.

“Instead of celebrating” that men and women with similar jobs and levels of education make around the same, “the White House wants to portray this ‘war on women,’” Wood said

“Young women today in metropolitan areas, for example, who are childless, single, young women are actually outperforming males in that same category all over the country.

“But the problem with that is, they hear this kind of rhetoric that discourages young women.”
“It makes them have a lack of confidence, and frankly, prevents them from doing the one thing that would get them where they need to be, which is have the confidence to ask for a raise, to ask for the right starting salary. We ought to be celebrating where women are.”

That’s interesting. I’ll have to look into that. I’m always surrounded by liberal/progressive women who see sexism everywhere.

I just take their word on it.

There is probably real income inequality in authoritative type positions though, but then again there is not a lot of female CEOs, etc. However, there is no doubt that women are outperforming men in a lot of different areas.

Oh just an aside: the Mossad apparently conducted a study a while back and concluded that women make for better spies. If memory serves, one of the reasons for that is that they’re not as egotistical as men, and are better at reading people (empathy) and multitasking. Fascinating.

A woman’s world, my friends. A woman’s world.
