I had a dream that I believe was demonic in nature

Hello. 🙂 Last night, I believe I came under attack from the devil during a dream. I can’t exactly remember what happened in the dream (I think because God doesn’t want me to remember what happened), but I remember that while I was praying my 15 decades of the Rosary before bed, I remember seeing something demonic and feeling the presence of evil. I remember it getting very dark in the room (pitch-black). I remember crying out to Mary to save me, and that took away the dark, but I could still feel the presence of evil. After I finished my Rosary, I went to bed.

During the dream, I remember seeing what I believed to be Satan. I saw a horrifying creature that I can’t even describe. I remember this creature being outside a window. I don’t remember what else happened during the dream (Again, because I don’t think God wants me to remember it). During the dream, I remember being the most scared I had ever been in my life. Right after seeing what I believed was Satan, I immediately woke up, and I could feel the presence of God.

Also, during the dream, I had a nocturnal emission. I didn’t dream about sins of the flesh. I know that. I know that since I didn’t give my full consent, it was not a mortal sin. But, was it a venial sin? The devil used to wake me up in the middle of the night to tempt me with sins of the flesh, but I rebuked him. I asked Mary to rebuke the devil, and the devil never woke me up again.

How do I avoid these demonic dreams in the future? I pray a lot. Yesterday, I didn’t pray the Morning Prayer or Office of Readings, but I did pray the Daytime, Evening, and Night Prayers. I also prayed the 15-decade Rosary 3 times and the Franciscan Crown 2 times. I would get a scapular, but my mother (who is very anti-Catholic) will not allow me to own one.

God bless you for answering. :blessyou:

If I have an ability to interpret anothers dreams I don’t know it, so just take this as a guess.

The devil was at the window during the darkness. The window is an entrance way. Not a willing entrance like a door but weak point for unwanted entrance. Your prayer to Marry caused the darkness to go away so that you could then see the evil that could soon make its entrance.

Does that sync with anything you might have going on in your life?

I don’t believe so. I can’t think of anything. 🤷

I’ve had similar terrifying experiences with sleep paralysis, though not in years, thank God. Since it involves sleep and either dreaming or something perhaps akin to it, it can be difficult if not impossible to determine whether there was a real demonic influence or whether the phenomenon was entirely natural.

When the room seemed to grow dark unnaturally just before you went to sleep, did you also find that you were unable to move without exerting great effort? Most sleep paralysis, both in my past experience and from what I’ve read, happens when one is just waking up, but it sometimes happens when one is just falling asleep. I know you said this is while you were praying the Rosary and before you went to bed, but might you have been drifting towards sleep as you were praying?

I ask because the feeling of intense evil and peril physically in the room with you very much resembles my experiences during sleep paralysis, and once during one of these experiences I also saw what seemed to be a demon entering the room, followed by events I’d rather not share.

But again, these things may be natural phenomena. In sleep paralysis essentially parts of your brain are awake while others are asleep, like in sleep walking but with different parts of the brain awake or asleep, and hallucinations can result. Some reported alien abductions may really be instances of this. Or even if this were a more normal case of falling asleep into a nightmare, again it could have been just a natural dream.

Regarding the nocturnal emission, I have argued on these boards, against conventional wisdom, that sometimes there is sufficient lucidity in a dream to commit a venial sin. But in this case you say there was nothing sexual in your dream and therefore I assume you could not have given any degree of consent, however slight, to any sexual fantasy. I wouldn’t worry about that part of it, therefore. It was just a bodily function that probably will cease when you get older.

I would try to move past this. Whether there was a demonic element in what happened or not, it is probably best not to get obsessive about it. If you can, talk to a priest if you continue to have such dreams or continue being troubled by this one.

First do not fear. God is with you and protecting you at all times.

Do not fear the night and do not fear sleep or dreams. God made the night and dreams for us to rest. God is with you.

You have a lot going on with your dreams and your feelings and even with the fact that your mom will not let you have a scapular.

Know that your mother doesn’t understand the Church or sacramentals, which is most likely why she will not let you have a scapular.

The youth director, the RCIA director, and your priest can be of great help with your difficulties. Please speak with them.

You can make an appointment with your priest by calling the parish office. I think you will find it very helpful to speak with him. Maybe you can ask if he can meet with you after Mass this weekend.

May God bless you with His Peace. May you feel His presence all day and all night.

I guess that you unconsciously associate the idea of God, Mary, prayer with some fears that perhaps have to do with scary things you’ve heard from other people. I remember that on another thread you said that consecration to Mary means that she will make us suffer to bring us closer to Jesus. This is not true. There are other scary warnings from various people that becoming closer to God, becoming Catholic necessarily mean that one becomes a target for demonic attacks. This is not true. And if a nocturnal emission with no significance (it wasn’t a sin) makes you think about sins of the flesh and demonic temptation, beware of scrupulosity. Relax a bit. Say like a child: “Blessed Virgin Mary, wrap me in your mantle and keep me under your protection”. And trust her 🙂

People have nightmares. I think that is what you had.

I had a nightmare once where I was dreaming that the devil was running after me with his pitchfork and kept stabbing me in the rump. I just couldn’t quite out run him. And then I came to a clift and couldn’t run any further, so I turned around, rolled up my fist, and tried to bust him square in the mouth. That is when I hit the bedroom wall with my fist and woke up.

Ouch, that did hurt too.

May God bless and keep you. May God’s face shine on you. May God be kind to you and give you peace.

The devil was trying to discourage you from praying.

He window is your eyes, the window into your soul. A window can also be a window through the veil to see what is outside.

The devil sends you evil thoughts or dreams through the eyes. If you study ufology you learn about the scanning procedure done by the “aliens” which are really demons. Scientologists do a similar process I think it is called screening. Basically this is the method of transferring thoughts into the human mind.

It is not sin when it happens in a dream.

If you want to poke the devil in the eye just keep praying, especially for the deliverance of men from sexual sins and temptations.
