Well…I did it. I went short today. I got that “Posh” look (not drastically short in the back but much shorter than I’d normally go) and it looks a-m-a-z-i-n-g --I mean this stylist was truly talented.

I have been searching high and low for someone who can cut thick hair…and cut it well. The guy I had been going to…well, sadly, he just chats way too much, and isn’t focusing on my hair. I like him, very nice man, but not going back. I just can’t allow people to butcher my hair anymore, and wait for it to grow out…and throw money away.

So…I went with my dd today to get our hair done…at this new salon…yay–very very happy!!! I wish I had a working camera, otherwise, I’d post the results here. Well, it’s working, I just can’t find the wire to download pics onto our computer. Must be packed away from our move still.

But, here’s the exact style:

(this isn’t me…just the style I googled that is very very close to the cut I got)

So share if you’ve had good hair salon experiences…and if you feel especially brave, please post your hairdos for us to see. http://www.clipartof.com/images/thumbnail/14212.jpg

Have a blessed night, all.👋

**I am so jealous!

I have had only TWO great hair experiences in my entire LIFE:banghead:

One of those was as a teen and I decided to go short…kind of like your cut, only shaved up the back with the bob part at a dramatic angle. I got so many compliments on that cut/style that is was awesome. Lots of maintenance and time styling, but it was SO worth it:D**

**The second time was just last year for my sister’s wedding. We went to an upscale salon together so she could get her trial bridal “do” and I splurged on a very expensive hair cut… first time I ever layered my long, thick hair. It was amazing but too expensive to keep up with.

So that wonderful cut has been butchered to pieces by now and I’m left with a mess.🤷**

Why is it so difficult to find a talented hair stylist??? I mean, come on, if I have to re-cut my own bangs after paying someone else to do it there is something seriously wrong😛

I hope you find your camera cable (nice excuse:D) so we can see a pic of the sassy new you:thumbsup:

LOL! ONLY TWO? Stop it. hahaha That is funny (well, it’s not funny)

I used to belong to that club…the club of the dreadful hair salon experiences!! It’s like you go to someone new, hoping and praying for the best…and when you get home, you find that you’re in front of the mirror…trying to restyle it because it just doean’t look right. I have sooo many times taken the scissors RIGHT AFTER arriving home from a haircut, and started ‘shaping’ the areas the person missed. It really would make me so upset…

So–have you wanted that style that you describe above, and just have not been able to find someone talented to do it? Thing is, it takes a lot of talent to get the precision of this cut right. My dd was with me getting hers done, and she was still in the chair. I went ‘boo,’ behind her…and she just smiled so wide and said…‘mommy, oh my gosh…you look so good with short hair.’ :o
Shorter than I had anticipated, but the stylist was ‘correcting’ the work done from a few weeks ago, from the stylist I mention in my OP.

But, finally…found someone who was like a magician.🙂 She even gives you a mini massage in your chair…with a nice cup of tea or spring water…and then massages your scalp…and places a warm towel on your neck when washing your hair. Hello? This is very good service. And the best news…the cut/style was about $38 …and that is very good, if you want to walk out…and look like you went to a NYC salon …I mean, she was that good.

Truly, it’s not an excuse about that camera wire.😃 My dh blames me for “losing” it…like I carry a camera around with me 24/7

Nice hearing from you Malia…you sound like you are in bright spirits tonight. Always nice to read.🙂

So how come ya didn’t a poll for us to vote on before changing your do?

I think it looks good.

hee hee 😃 I should have…what was I thinking, Bama? lol

You know, to be honest, it wasn’t entirely my choice…but now that I have this ‘do,’ I love love love it. I can tell it will be tons easier than my longer hair. I had cut my long long hair a while back, but this is definitely drastic for me.

Hey, hubby just got home from work everyone, and he loves it. He said that he wouldn’t have thought he’d like short hair on me so much, but he does. (he normally has always liked longer hair on me) Double yay.👍 I mean, this hair do was a correction hair do, but I think I’ll keep this style for a while…we’ll see.

Will I get shot if I say that every experience is great? 😊

My mom found our stylist when I was a little girl. She was one year out of beauty school. I started going to her when I was 7. Thirty years later…I still love her! She did my hair for my wedding (she and her daughter were also guests) and is in the picture for my DS’s first haircut.

Oh we love her so much that it gets even worse… My older sister moved out of state for college. She has now lived in another state for 20+ years. She flies home at least 4 times per year to visit us and to get her hair cut. Her 2 kids get theirs cut too. We call them the $800 haircuts. (Actually they are $15 a piece.)

AND it gets even worse…We actually paid to fly our stylist out of state to do everyone’s hair for my sister’s wedding 10 years ago. We are absolutely NOT a “spendy” family in any other way, I promise! But we knew she would do it right! She did four generations of my family for that wedding, and four generations for my wedding here in Idaho. All of my bridesmaids are now her clients.

Her name is Pam and we LOVE her!!!

Let me know if she is ever coming up my way!!! I may have to kidnap her and hide her in my basement (she can share with the cat:D)

Have a blessed night, all.👋
I had a cut very similar to that for years, and my hair is SUPER thick. I loved it – it’s low maintenance and looks super-professional and chic! Congrats on the cut! Once you go short, it’s hard to go back. =)

I’m another one who has had this cut, and I also have very thick hair. I wear it shoulder length now. As I’ve gotten older, my face is too thin (I think) to wear it that short, although I do love the cut.

Like you, Whatever Girl, I can count the times on one hand when I have had good experiences at hair salons. Thick hair is a blessing–but hard to handle. I had finally found someone very close to home whom I loved and trusted. Last two cuts have been great. I found out yesterday she is taking an extended leave of absence:shrug:

I guess I won’t be getting my hair cut for another six months or so…DH has offered to cut it for me. I think I’ll pass.

Thank you:) Yes I think this hairstyle is that with thick hair, it really magnifies the look. I have seen this look on thinner hair, and the back doesn’t look “as stacked,” you know?

I hear ya about not wanting to go back to long! Yes…that’s what I’m thinking too!:o Thing is, I work in a very professional environment, and the long hair thing…I dunno…I am going to be 40this year, it just seems to hide my face…it’s too heavy…kind of weights me down, and in some ways, makes me personally, look frumpy. If I had thinner hair, I could wear it long. There are a few women in my office in their 40’s who look fabulous with long hair, but they have a style that works with less than thick hair. Not only do I have thick hair, but it’s course. It’s a pain in other words! lol This might be the right ‘do’ for me.

Have you ever watched the show, Jon & Kate plus 8? I love that show, and have always liked Kate’s haircut, albeit so short (taken up) in the back…but, this is like a step or two away from something like that, and strangely enough, I can see myself doing that soon. 😊

I woke up today…and was soooo happy still with my new do!

Flowers for everyone
:flowers: :flowers: :flowers:

It’s the lil things like this that can make my day.

😃 your dh has offered? aw, that’s funny! My dh cut my hair years ago, and it didn’t look half bad…but it was longer, and I just wanted like an inch taken in the back. Thick hair is often looked at as a blessing, but when you have it, it can be quite unruly…and when it gets too long…it loses its shape. Mine had no shape, just hung bluntly…the cut from the guy I mention in my OP, who did my hair a few weeks ago. The other thing is why keep throwing money away on hairstyles you end up hating. I thanked God this morning for putting the girl at work in my path, who gets her hair done at this salon. I know it sounds perhaps trite to thank God for this, but I found it to be a blessing. :o

I’m sorry your stylist has taken an extended leave of absence…hmmm…anyone else at that salon you could trust to do an excellent job like your current person?

I went to the same stylist for almost five years – until she moved back home to China. =\

My husband would give it a try if I really wanted him to, but I don’t! He said he would buy us one of those Flowbees (sp?) and give it a shot. He washed my hair for me when I was pregnant and painted my toenails, and I love him for offering (even if he was joking,) but I’m not going to take him up on his offer.

My stylist had her own shop and only worked a few days a week anyway. She is undergoing a serious bout of depression, which is the reason she took the leave. She has referred all her clients to another woman I know (I live in a small town.) I guess I may try her. I thought I might just start with the bangs!!

:rotfl: Your cat is well loved so she would be happy I’m sure. And her shop is in her own basement so she would feel right at home. Her house has an exterior door that leads downstairs so they remodeled it into a salon.

Her specialty is natural curl and she does very well with thick hair and coarse hair. In fact it is my thick, fine hair that causes her a little hassle. Often people have thin and fine, or thick and coarse. I am a mix of the two. I have a lot of hair but each individual strand is fairly fine.

Whatevergirl: The style is gorgeous! It is a good mix of short/long. So many short styles look too boyish. It still has a nice feminine feel. I am not a fan of unisex styles, but that could just be the 80s haunting me.

ARRRGGGHHHHH! I need my own PAM:banghead:

My hair is thick, coarse, and as of about a year ago, naturally curly. I got curls after having Lily and I have had to relearn how to handle my hair. I need PAM!!!:sad_yes:**

**This last hair stylist put the layers in all of the wrong spots and it makes the curls do very strange and unflattering things…🤷

I <3 my stylist.
Let me start by saying that for the last two years, I have been double processing my hair (yes, I know- horrible!)
Well, the last time I went in to perm my hair, it just started breaking. I washed my hair and two handfuls of hair. I called her up and told her what happened.
I literally landed at the airport (I had gone down to TX to see DH) and drove to the salon.
2 hours later, I walked out with much shorter, much darker hair and about $150 worth of product to fix my hair. Apparently, she was devestated that my hair just finally jumped shipped. We had always joked that one day, it would just happen. And it did!

So anyway- my hair is short again, and I am loving it!

That’s great! 🙂

I typically have always worn my hair long in my life. Shoulder length in my 30’s, with a few moments of ‘bobs.’ But, I must say, I don’t miss my long hair. It took a long time to blow dry, make straight…and the heaviness of thick hair, I believe when a woman turns like 35-40 (my age bracket) …it starts to weight her down. This is me. Then, there are classics like Jane Seymour, but her hair isn’t ‘weighty.’ It appears to be manageable and ‘fine,’ just long. But she could use a trim. lol:p

Back in '02, I finally got a hairdresser to give me the exact same haircut that Gillian Anderson was sporting in “The X-Files” (alas, I do not have the coloring for red hair, much to my dismay, so the color remained my natural dark coffee brown). I was absolutely thrilled. I have never before or since had a haircut I’ve liked so much.

I remember her. That’s a classic hairstyle…why not get it again? Hair stylists are like socks in a dryer, I think…the good ones always disappear, and you never know where they’ve gone to.😃
