Help me. I had sad situation yesterday. Before I went school I had to drunk some wine. I bought it 2 days ago and I imagined what would happened if I drink this. I drank half of glass 2 hours before school. Why? I don’t know it. I just wanted to know this taste. I am not alcoholic and now I can’t stand any alcohol. I went to confession on Monday and I regret that did a mortal sin yesterday. I was not drunk. I was ‘fully thinking’ and felt sober. But I know it’s mortal sin. But if is not can I go to Holy Communion again? I have big problem with back to God. Devil attacks me in every way, most by bad thoughts. I regret that idea with wine. So much I regret it. Should I go to Communion or maybe go to confession again? But I feel ashamed of going to confession every week…😦 Help me… I regret it SO MUCH.

There is nothing bad or shameful about going to Confession every week. However, from your post it sounds like you might have a problem with scrupulosity. Please discuss with your priest, and also ask him how often you should be going to Confession, and follow his advice.

Maybe you’re right but I feel would have no occasion to go confession but if I would have it I would go. I am adult but I know did wrong while I was drinking it. 😦 I wish I havent got mortal sin but I have to talk with priest. Thank you for your answer.

Is drinking wine a mortal sin? It’s news to me. Drunkenness may be sinful, but you tell us here yourself that you didn’t get drunk.

As long as you are of legal drinking age, it is not sinful to drink alcohol unless you drink so much you put yourself or others at risk (driving while drunk, losing control of your actions etc.)

Speak with your priest, it sounds as if you are becoming scrupulous.

But I know it’s mortal sin.
Why do you think having half a glass of wine is sinful, let alone mortally sinful?

I mean, drinking wine in the morning is certainly weird, and if someone does it often I’d be concerned they were an alcoholic, but it sounds like here you were just curious about the taste.

This does not sound like mortal sin.

May not be sinful at all unless you are underage or were drunk. Your priest would know better though.

Drinking alcohol is not sinful. Using it to excessive such that you comprise (slightly or fully) your use of reason is sinful.

Well, breaking a just civil law is sinful, but it sounds like you were not driving. It also sounds like you are old enough to buy alcohol legally. So where is the sin or the lawbreaking?

Drinking wine or beer as part of breakfast, and as a digestive, was common in certain times and places in the past. That included kids, although often they got their drinks more diluted than adults did.

If you end up at an old school company, you will find that business lunches may include alcoholic drinks, and that you are expected to go back to work afterward.

In my own lifetime, it used to be normal and acceptable for even kids to have a small glass of wine at formal dinners at home. And we did not like the taste much until we got older, because a kid is just not designed to like bitter or acidic tastes. Nor did we ever get tipsy at all, because the portion was reasonably sized, and we spaced out our sips.

Use prudence. Do not do something silly like this, and keep your wits about you. But also, do not beat yourself up more than the offense warrants – and it seems not to have been an offense! More like a waste of good wine.

I believe one could argue that a law forbidding minors to drink wouldn’t necessarily be just, but to each his own.

As an outsider looking in, I certainly think the American drinking age of “21” is beyond absurd…just? Hard to say.
