There is nothing that says she MUST live with an abusive spouse. She can walk out the door and leave the marriage intact.This is a difficult question indeed. But those marriage vows are a ringing in my head right now.
‘For better or for worse’ - your marriage isn’t annulled yet, you’d have to stick through it or actually get it annulled. That way you can be away from him and still care for him if so need be, when the time comes.
Dermot, you’ve been at this for months. You need to make a decision. Something is keeping you there. Not just guilt or fear. People hold onto things when they get something out of them. You need to figure out what you’re getting from this situation that you don’t want to let go of. (martyr status that gets you sympathy? I am NOT trying to be rude, I promise, I am trying to get you to look clearly at yourself and why you took this for so long and why you continue to try with him when it’s obvious he’s impervious.) Most people would have been out the door decades before his diagnosis…
