ever since I called off my engagement to my fiancée john I have trouble finding my prince charming I tried using the dating website okcupid and I get ignored by most of the men on there and I got back with my ex boyfriend Charles who broke up with me for the 3rd time on Friday over facebook and I am feeling discouraged and wondering if I will ever find that special someone

Please, do not get back together with your ex again. It is better to be single than with someone that breaks up with you on Facebook…

If you want to use the Internet to find someone instead meeting in person like in the olden days, 😉 why not try a Catholic site like CatholicMatch or AveMariaSingles? Many people on this site have found their spouse that way.

I don’t know how old you are, but maybe you should just take a break from dating for a while. Perhaps you should use this time to learn how to be comfortable with yourself. You have to be happy with yourself in order for other people to like you.

Pray for God’s will for yourself, and have patience that He will send you the right person in HIS time. May God bless you and guide you. 🙂

These sound like behaviors of a very young person-- breakups over Facebook,a Prince Charming, “okcupid”.

If you want a godly man, that is not the place to look.

I suggest you stop looking for a Prince Charming and start looking at marriage as a vocation and partnership in the difficult trials of life, a vocation of self sacrifice.

Live your life fully in service of God. Don’t worry about the rest. It will take care of itself.

Every “prince charming” has feet of clay and is going to leave the toilet seat up on a regular basis. Ignore the dating websites and instead go get involved at your local parish. Sooner or later, someone is going to know someone who knows someone. Look for a man who has Jesus in his heart and you can talk with, and the rest will solve itself.

I was engaged at the age of 21. It didn’t work out.

For a few years I despaired that I would never find a wife. I dated a few people, some nice girls, but nothing that developed very far.

At the age of 25 I met a wonderful woman (at a church event) and we were married the next year.

So, overall, I’d suggest just relax and recognise that there is no rush to find this “prince charming”. Occupy yourself in Godly activities and you’ll be more likely to meet a Godly man than if you spend time on (secular) dating websites or getting back together with ex boyfriends, who are presumably exes for a good reason.

PS your subject title itself is telling and a bit worrying. You should not be seeking relationships because you hate being single. You should only seek relationships for the purpose of discerning marriage.

If you are one of those people who jumps from one relationship to the next simply to fill a void, I’d say stop. Spend time working on yourself. Build virtue and self-confidence. Think about what you want from your next relationship, rather than simply rushing into one because you are lonely.

Better no relationship at all than a bad one!

Breathe and slow down.

Lonely is a part of life, so we should not make running from it a driving force in our life.

Concentrate on your prayer life, penance, and the non-male-relationship areas of your life. If God wants you to be with someone, HE himself will set it up.

Pardon the exceptionally long quote here, but I think of the second half of Dr. Seuss’s “Oh The Places You’ll Go!” I think it is remarkably sound advice for all adults (and even kids, too.).

Oh, the places you’ll go! There is fun to be done!
There are points to be scored. There are games to be won.
And the magical things you can do with that ball
will make you the winning-est winner of all.
Fame! You’ll be as famous as famous can be,
with the whole wide world watching you win on TV.

Except when they don’t
Because, sometimes they won’t.

I’m afraid that some times
you’ll play lonely games too.
Games you can’t win
'cause you’ll play against you.

All Alone!
Whether you like it or not,
Alone will be something
you’ll be quite a lot.

And when you’re alone, there’s a very good chance
you’ll meet things that scare you right out of your pants.
There are some, down the road between hither and yon,
that can scare you so much you won’t want to go on.

But on you will go
though the weather be foul.
On you will go
though your enemies prowl.
On you will go
though the Hakken-Kraks howl.
Onward up many
a frightening creek,
though your arms may get sore
and your sneakers may leak.

On and on you will hike,
And I know you’ll hike far
and face up to your problems
whatever they are.

You’ll get mixed up, of course,
as you already know.
You’ll get mixed up
with many strange birds as you go.
So be sure when you step.
Step with care and great tact
and remember that Life’s
a Great Balancing Act.
Just never forget to be dexterous and deft.
And never mix up your right foot with your left.

And will you succeed?
Yes! You will, indeed!
(98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)

KID, YOU’LL MOVE MOUNTAINS!

I remember your post about you and your fiance. You were still engaged not that long ago. Like maybe a few months ago. You expect to find your “Prince Charming” withing a few months of being single? Some people go years single. I know it sucks being single sometimes but you have not been single long enough to have the right to complain about it. I have only had one girlfriend in my life and that was when I was 29. It lasted 4 months and I am 30 now. Imagine all the years I spent single… With all due respect your expectations do not seem grounded in reality. Only a couple months of online dating and you are upset because most guys ignore you? Unless someone is model good looking (guy or girl) most people get ignored a lot on dating sites. I get maybe 2 or 3 dates a year from dating sites. It took me over a year of trying before I got a girlfriend. That is reality. Sorry if I sounded harsh but being the topic of being single can get me going. Take care and God bless.

I hate it too~ My longtime girlfriend and I called it quits a year or so ago. But, on reflection, I find that I hated it more being with her. So here I am, 31, single. Not the ‘ideal situation.’. But it’s my situation. And when the right person comes, I’ll know it.

I wouldn’t doubt that you’ll know it too, when the right person comes. So long as you keep yourself open to meeting people. As the song goes - you can’t hurry love. No, you just have to wait. Love don’t come easy.

If there’s one thing I have learned thus far in life, is that it is better to be alone than to be hurting in a relationship.

Love is patient, love is kind… and love is available to you. But you want what God wants for you. You have to be whole and complete with yourself before you can find and love another.

When you feel OK with being single, I suggest trying CatholicMatch. There’s a lot of nice Catholic guys out there who are praying to find someone like you.

With my prayers
