I hate it when I get scripture read to me

Exactly!

This is what is irritating.

The methodology and the tactics: scare into submission.

Jehovah Witnesses are less forceful but just as lethal as they initiate their encounters by disregarding any knowledge that a person has about Scriptures and the Catholic/Christian Faith.

Same for me. Reading the Gospel alone, meditating on it and praying the Rosary has worked much better for me

I have no problems w Jehovah witness ,they have a job like any other missionary , my problem is w these bible thumbers who think they know it all , and percieve their views about the bible as gold ,they cannot comprehend another persons ,thoughts , because its a sin for them to think on their own ,as their view perceives their right the rest is wrong .
thats annoying ,irratating

Protestants say the same about Catholics!
 
@lordie, I will be more careful of lumping ALL
use of scripture as Bible-thumping, it is God
breathed and can and will give Life and Convict
of sin IF SAID IN THE RIGHT SPIRIT. It is the
“sword of the Spirit” after all. Jesus, as a man
tempted USED SCRPTURE to answer the devil.
 
Just tell him maybe that the two of you think differently on the subject of Christianity?

bible thumbing is different in all religions some more ,uptight and some less , no I don’t clump all religion together, just ones that I feel shouldn’t be forcing biblical views in others ,when clearly its just repetive material

Wow, what wonderful Christian Charity! It is important to avoid these people, and pray for them. Forgive them, for they know not what they do!
 
I don’t mind if someone reads the scriptures to me in a short-term session esp. if it is someone I know, Father at Mass, a family member or an open Bible discussion or study. I can close my eyes, listen and digest the Word of Lord. Like you though, don’t try to force the Bible down my throat like bad medicine that will cure my sick soul. “Physician, heal thine self” first.
I think of the Apostles and the crowd of five thousand. They came because they sought the message and had a thirst for God, not because they were forced to. I will call it a spiritual compulsion.
 
I think that you are mixing values; true there are missionaries out there (as “the truth is out there”); yet, not all who march to a different drum preach Jesus.

As for “respect” and “being right;” there is a catch to it; I cannot respect, as a Catholic, any purveyor of a mission that rejects Christ’s Divinity or that dilutes His Teachings. It is not about being right; it is about Jesus’ Truth.
