I hate the Youtube comment section

I think some people have an urge to read everything on a webpage, but I personally have outgrown this. However for the sake of those who don’t, many YouTube video creators (including EWTN) have disabled comments. Many news sites have also disabled comments.

Sadly, much of the commentary on World News even in CAF is barely above the quality of Youtube comments, but guess what, I don’t read the vast majority of topics there anymore.
It’s too bad EWTN disabled their comments. They would get more views if they had them.

Not all the comments are that bad. Ascension Presents has really good comments, but also really, REALLY good videos.

You’re spot on. In general the youtube comment section can get really, really nasty, but when it comes to comments about religion the nastiness jumps up several spheres. For example, you can have a poster saying something like “God bless him” and there will probably be 10+ comments saying that God doesn’t exist or something with a taste of “that’s all a bunch of fairy tales.” Remember, youtube is mostly secular and the “good, mannered atheist” in the real world becomes unprincipled. Leftist Christians also do no favors. For every Westboro Baptist poster I can find five secularists or non-religious person who mocks and is insensitive about faith.

I’m not familiar with the comment section on WN, but I’m somewhat familiar with CAF comments on their frontpage articles. From what I remember the CAF comments are not nearly as bad as youtube comments - there’s at least some sort of fight for sound reasoning and intellectual honesty even when it came to opposing views between a non-religious or leftist Christian versus a traditional Catholic. To say that “CAF is barely above the quality of Youtube comments” is hyperbole to me.

Ok. I’ll be the only person who likes them. And I like them for an odd reason. It reminds me that evil and such does indeed exist in people’s hearts. It actually is a dose of the real secular world and all its shortcomings. And I think it’s helpful to have that reminder.

Also. I’m a parent. And I wish to know my enemy well, so I can armour my kids.

Plus, sometimes I need to laugh…

I love the original “Spirit in the Sky”.

I’m not bothered by comments sections any more than ii am by people posting all kinds of stuff on CAF. I like the idea of everybody having a microphone instead of just some select people.
