I have a goofy question for catholics

My reply: Not so, just the only one to come home in the last 500 years! Before then, all our family was Catholic!

Thanks for all the info. I have learned more then I knew before. For example, the Bishop in Rome and St. John church being a higher seat then St. Peter’s basilica.

I cannot speak for “nobody.” But certainly “everybody” else knew it or those titles would not have been catchy. *Rome Sweet Home *was more a pun on “Home, Sweet Home,” a popular song of the 1860s, than a reference to “home” per se.

The term “crossing the Tiber” (aka, “leaping” “swimming” or “jumping”) – as others have pointed out on this thread – was first popularized in the 1830s when a spate of idealistic young men, scions of the Oxford movement, became Catholic. The term never lost currency. In its most pristine usage, it applies in particular to Anglicans who submit to the Apostolic See.

But actually if you are in Rome you have to cross the Tiber to get to the Vatican, there’s no way around it. So your friend can fly into Rome but then to get to the Vatican she’ll have to go back east across the Tiber if she wants to see the Vatican. Then she can go back west again to see San Giovanni i Laterano - which is actually the Pope’s Basillica (that’s why it’s considered higher than San Pietro)! Don’t forget to tell her to visit Gesu! Im sorry I did see your humor. I read through it fast because I was in the middle of something. Yes my weekend was great! I went to a spa and spent time with my good friend from college. Unfortunately I came home to chaos. I guess it proves my family just cant live without me.

I think that more than one convert to Catholcism had similar thoughts… coming to the Faith was surly coming home… in spite of coming home to the chaos and confusion among the members of the home, I mean Church.

And even though the Catholic Church will survive without you, it would rather live WITH you…(we’ll leave the light on… )

Well, I think she’d have to have a pretty big suitcase to fit my big 'ol pregnant belly!
Actually, we’ve looked into moving there (Italy), but it’s really hard.

Just tell her to stay away from the metro! Walking is more fun anyway!

Hey, that’s okay. Don’t be embarassed, I don’t often mention it. Actually I think this is the first time I have said I was pregers on here. I read it like it could go either way, 'cause I am getting pretty big and since she’s going with 12 women I thought well maybe it’s for just women singles and I’d have to be a woman to go.

I wish that CAF were like some of the other web-forums I have been too.

Meaning I wished that they used that “circle with the cross” symbol next to the screen name to show that the person is a “Women”.

And the “circle with the arrow” symbol next to the screen name to show that the person is a “Man”

Although CAF most likely will not use symbols like that seeing the one actually is for Venus and the other is for Mars.

However, I’m sure that something can be done to show the “gender” of the user. Maybe a “Pink” Cross or a “Blue” Cross next to the user name.

Or maybe a picture of a man or a picture of a woman, similar to those pictures found on the doors of public bathrooms to show if the user is a Women or a Man. I think if CAF offered something like that then we would all be less likely be confused if the person we are talking to is a woman or a man.

Sorry for the rant and being off topic, it was just a thought I was having.

Ok my friend is going to Rome in April so she bought a book on Rome. I was looking at the map and trying to figure out where Vatican City was. As I was looking I noticed that the Tiber(also called something else, which confused me) is on the east side of the Vatican. So, if I were to swim the Tiber to cross over to the Vatican(CC faith) I would be swimming away from it as it is on the other side. I think because I would be coming from America I would not cross the Tiber to get to Vatican City.:whacky:

Again, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS AS AN INSULT just a geographical discovery. LOL

If I am not mistaken, Rome and the Vatican are on opposite sides of the river. So to swim the tiber would be to swim from Rome to the Vatican, from paganism(Rome was the ulitmate pagan city in the first few centuries of Christianity) to the true faith.

It might be silly if you were looking at it literally… but the culture on one side of the Tiber is very different from the culture on the other side… It’s leaving one culture (that is familiar) for another culture (likely to be quite different)… It’s not meant to be taken literally…
