I came back to the Church almost a year ago. I was received formally into the Church at the 2018 Easter Vigil. Since I’ve come back, I’ve struggled immensely with the sin of masturbation. The longest I’ve gone without it is 17 days. It always seems to be a masturbation-confession cycle, wherein I go to confession, go a while - less than a week or more than a week, depending - without masturbating, then I have a sudden wave of evil will come over me, that’s almost impossible to resist, that makes me want to masturbate no matter the cost - and I do. Please help me. It’s destroying my spiritual life.

It’s hard and terrible to break, I know, but you must as it offends God.

Are you doing the rosary? “there is no problem that cannot be solved without the rosary” sister lucia -fatima seer.

You need to work harder, have you read st John Vianny, he talks of committing so many of the same sins, God can no longer pardon them and you are not stopping them - it was a real wake up call for me.

Perhaps try getting some help, I know someone who got some CD’s online. Whenever you feel even the slightest bit tempted, go out, ask for Mary’s help, do some prayers, shut down your computer immediately.

Good luck, prayers for you x

I don’t think God ever stops forgiving us.
What is your basis for believing this?
Saints say some things at times to get people to wake up and repent.
But that is not what the Church teaches.

Some self awareness can help. Find out the triggers behind each ‘session’. It could be boredom, anger or whatever.

There’s this app called Victory. It’s apparently made to help people struggling with this. I’ve never looked at it but you could check it out?

The OP is asking from a Catholic perspective.

Either respond from a Catholic perspective, in the desired manner, or don’t respond at all.

Just don’t receive Communion if you can’t make it to Confession. Go to Confession once or twice a month. Keep busy and avoid triggers. Don’t worry, it’s not the End of the World.

The big thing is to persevere. I’ve struggled with this for awhile too.
Take cold showers or do other penance. If you can say no to chocolate, you’ll increase your willpower to say no to masturbation.
Say the Rosary
Pray everyday- Meditate and journal on the day’s Gospel.

Ohh, so advising someone to give up on a matter of mortal sin is sooo in line with the Magisterium

Oh, yeah, saying the Rosary and reading Scripture are sooooo wrong. all the saints hate it, I forgot about that. sorry!

The cycle you speak of is feelings based.
Lust-shame-pain-lust. We are so focused on feeling good in all these areas.

Breaking the cycle of feelings is key. For me, part of the victory over lust is dealing with shame and pain.
Dealing with sexual feelings is more difficult because we are wired to be sexual.
Deal with shame, pain, and low self worth and you will make progress.

  1. So, avoiding masturbation is sinful…?

st John Vianny was a mystic. That’s my basis for believing this.

Pray, knowing the Perfect Compassion of
God’s Covenantual Love giving strength
to each of us, by The Mediation of Jesus Christ.
Ask for constant intervention, pleading for help,
for your conscious mind to receive,
for strength & trust to say, ‘Jesus help me,’
during times of your own temptation.
Ask for help to alleviate those thoughts to replaced
by wholesome thoughts of friendships and parent hugs;
or sibling hugs, or how my household chores help
myself and family to live in a clean house.
Think about how every woman is God’s daughter.

Just some ideas…

This is the perspective of a mentally sane catholic my friend
Entirely false.

The Pope doesn’t wank. Neither should a Catholic layman.

“Theology of the Body” goes into the detail of the glory and dignity of the human body and the reasons why the Church believes what it believes as it pertains to sexuality.

Peace.

I had the same problem for more longer than alot of people can say. I used to fall to this deadly sin on a daily basis. It isnt easy to just look past it and ignore it. Show and say to God how much you love him. Pray to him for strength, confession is there for us to get back up and try again to love our Father Almighty.

We will fall, I fall once in a while, but way less than what I used to commit. God works with us over time, he understands our attempts and love. May we always be willing to do our part to change ourselves to become closer to who made us. It took me years to finally overcome my temptations, yet the sin I struggle with the most is lust still, thoughts dont leave as easily but may we present our humiliation to God and ask of him to help let this bad thought pass us. May we always continue to be of good nature. I understand how hard it is especially how embarrassing it gets afterwards when the Lord comes to my mind. I totally get you, stay strong.

My Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God,
Have mercy on me a sinner.

Give yourself a break and stop these ridiculous ideas about masturbation being sinful, its creepy and wrong to even talk about this
Sin isn’t the worst thing. Denial of sin is the worst thing.

-Fulton Sheen

Let me say solitary sex shouldn’t be in any religious persons life
I do believe you are wrestling with a demon, they make great
efforts in the area of our sexuality

What helps me when I feel the temptation is to start praying multiple Hail Marys until the temptation goes away.

When I don’t pray the Hail Mary’s I often eventually give in to temptation, but praying the Hail Marys helps.

Try it.
