I have a question about the blessed candles for the Three Days of Darkness

It hasn’t happened YET. The alleged apparition in Spain (since it is an unapproved apparition we cannot directly discuss it) brought together a number of sign that were prophesied by different saints at different time in different nations, going back at least 500 years. Allegedly, there is to be a Warning (aka “Illumination of Conscience”, a “road to Damascus” moment) basically where everyone sees their soul the way G_D sees it; a Miracle (aka, The Sign) which is to be a permanent feature at the site; and the Chastisement, which may or may not be what the Protestants call the Tribulation.

Also, with the 3 Days of Darkness: One of the Egyptian plagues was 3 days and nights of darkness, where only the lamps in the houses of the Jews gave light. There is a theological “theory” that says Jesus’ Passion was the plagues of Egypt redone, with the time in the tomb being the same as the 3 days of darkness. This same theory says that the Church, in its own way, will relive both the Plagues and the Passion before Jesus returns. Ergo, the 3 Days of Darkness is to be an end-time event.
 
Wow, I had the exact same question! I was wondering if I need to maintain perpetually lit Candlemas candles until the event is at hand. I have faith that we will be ok, however 🙂 BTW, that’s awesome that you have an accessible parish that follows the tradition. Peace.

If you’re unsure, I believe you can get your priest to bless a small box of matches to be used with the candles.
 
That Apparition has not been approved by the Vatican yet.
 
Even if , just say it were so and true, what would be wrong with being in darkness for 3 days and nights. The prophecy says we must remain inside, so there is not too much risk of getting lost in darkness. That is my ultimate question.
 
Flagged as violating TOS Content Rule 6, “Do not post material from unapproved private revelations”.

The revelations to Marie de la Fraudais (aka Marie-Julie Jahenny) and Mother Shipton are not approved by the Church. Mother Shipton is not even considered a Catholic mystic to my knowledge, she was associated with fortune tellers.

Blessed Anna Maria Taigi’s revelations are approved by the Church because she’s a blessed (a beati). They don’t violate the TOS.

Posting material from unapproved private revelations violates the TOS.

Ok, then what about people who have had a supernatural conversion story (private revelations) and post whose stories on this website, is that forbidden also ?

Many of those also get flagged. Whether the mods remove them, lock thread, give person a warning etc is up to them. From what I have seen it’s definitely not encouraged to post some long thing about how one just saw Jesus to this forum.

If they’re the only source of light then striking a match wouldn’t work as that would produce light and that would mean the candles are not the only source of light.

I know I sound silly asking this but I have been pondering on it a bit today. Could someone please shed some light on this (that pun wasn’t actually intended)

Firstly it is always a good idea to have blessed candles at home. To use them when praying; Satan and the demons hate this. Also you never know when there might be a power cut and candles come in useful. I actually find it nice to pray in the dark with a candle lit.

As for the three days of darkness I am sure that we will be informed before it happens rather than it happening out of the blue whilst we are t work?
 
Reportedly, according to some versions, the 3 Days will happen after a night of an extremely cold storm; so supposedly people would be inside anyway due to the weather. Other than that, like many other “thieves in the night”, we must be prepared.

As for keeping a supply of blessed candles at home: my parents used to have this huge crucifix on a wall in the home. It turned out you would slide the crucifix part off the top, to reveal a base where you’d set up the crucifix, and there was a space for a bottle of holy water and two small blessed candles.

It was only years after I left home that I found out that was a home “sick kit” from the times when many people died at home. You would set up the crucifix, put the candles in the holders in the arms of the base, and set it up next to the sick person’s bed. When the priest came for “Extreme Unction” (aka “Last Rites”), you’d light the candles and you’d be set to join the priest in the sacrament.
