I asked this is the AAA forum first, but then I read the rules and realized they do not want people asking these types of questions there.
I was watching a movie the other day and there was scene with nudity in it. I had not seen this movie before and I did not know there was going to be nudity. I realized like 5 seconds before this scene that this was going to happen. I tried looking away, but I kept looking back and then looking away. The scene was not meant to be sexual but I was attracted to it.
Is this a mortal sin? Should I go to confession just to be safe?

First off, welcome to CAF! Second, as far as I know looking at nudity is not a sin in and of itself. It depends on your intention, which you didn’t have because you didn’t see it coming, and on what you do with the image afterward, if you catch my meaning. But if you are troubled by your feelings about it, then by all means mention it the next time you go to Confession. It definitely never hurts!

Thank you for the warm welcome and thank you for answering my question.
I’ll probably go to Confession within the week, so thanks for the advice.

When in doubt, confess anyway!

IMHO you didn’t sin. You didn’t seek it out, and when it did happen you weren’t staring lustfully at it with a pool of drool at your feet. 😉

Watching a film that has a bit of nudity in it is not a sin unless it leads you to sin. When I was in college and an art major we drew nudes all the time, and this was a Catholic school. Visiting museums there is nude art everywhere…even in the Vatican. The human body is a work of are, yet it can be exploited. If you were watching the film because it had nuditiy in it then it would be sinful. Otherwise I doubt there is a problem. If it was then I would be concerned about some of the priests that I have gone to the movies with that had nude scenes…

If you didn’t know that there was a scene that might lead to temptation, then you were probably (at least it sounds like) only faced with a temptation, which is perfectly natural and not sinful. If you chose (consciously or seemingly subconsciously) to continue watching and/or fantasizing later then it becomes a sin. Sometimes we humans can “fool” ourselves and say to ourselves - “Well, I didn’t really decide to sin” all the while we are continuing to receive sexually stimulating (name removed by moderator)ut that we could avoid if we really wanted. On the other hand, in this culture it’s difficult to avoid sometimes. I limit myself to no higher than PG-13 and then only if it says it’s for language (that isn’t a problem for me). Otherwise, it’s PG or even G for me. I see more classics because of this, and also read more.

It certainly wouldn’t hurt to mention it in confession.
