I have a question...

I disagree with humans being sterilized simply because it’s against the Church’s beliefs. I also disagree with the belief that animals are to be placed as equals to humans. Yes… we are animals by our very nature of being in the Animal Kingdom… but do the rest of the dichotomy and we aren’t equals to animals, in the proper sense of the word. There is a reason our species can’t reproduce in mass quantity (minus the families that use fertility drugs).

I don’t find any merit to such an argument. TBG, you asked a question now sit back and read the responses with charity. You don’t want to get attacked, then please refrain from attacking others. As I read through these posts, it seemed like you were waiting in the wings just to pounce and the minute someone wrote something dissenting, you jumped. Patience dear one.

If by those “official documents” you are referencing the bible (I’m guessing at this becasue you just said “referenced above”) Then I do not take the bible as an official document stating the absolute truth. I’m talking about some sort of government issued or otherwise scientifically issued doctrine.
That you choose to dismiss materials that disagree with you doesn’t mean such materials haven’t been provided and aren’t authoritative.

The Earth being flat was considered a fact about 600 or so years ago, was that right?
Assume for the sake of argument it was. So what? It may have been considered a fact, but it wasn’t a fact. Flat-earthers, IOW, had an erroneous opinion.

If you can’t even properly distinguish between opinion and fact, why should anyone take your “philosophical” musings seriously?

You may be right about white supremacy not being a fact…
I “may be right” about it? Meaning you have room for doubt?

I’m not sure my point on this was made well. What I am meaning to say, is that while humans and animals are quite obviously different, I value an animal life the same as a human life.
No you don’t. You treat cows and your family the same way? There’s no qualitative difference between a hamburger with cheese and a Momburger with cheese? The death of your neighbor’s pet bears the same weight as the death of your neighbor’s child?

Absurd.

No, I choose to dismiss material that isn’t proven to be absolutely correct, if at all correct.

So? This only agrees with my point, that they considered it a fact when it wasn’t.
I “may be right” about it? Meaning you have room for doubt?
I agreed with you and you still question me?

I said “may” because I did not feel like researching to see if you are right, so I said “may” to represent that and agreed with you.

All right let me put this as best as I can, the way I said it could easily be taken differently.

If my house was one fire, would I
Run back inside to save my sister? Yes
Run back inside to save my cat? Yes

Thats because I see all life as equal. Most would call it stupid, but that’s still how I feel.

Circular argument.

It agrees with my point: Opinions, included yours, can be wrong. Facts, however, cannot.

You have to do research to determine that white supremacy is false?

And if you could save only one? Since your sister is equal to a cat, I presume you’d just flip a coin?

Just wondering here, But what if You could only save one of the two?

I’ll assume, though we all may not wish to admit it 😛 , but we’d save our sisters, even if that might be the more difficult of the two rescues.

As for the topic in hand, my :twocents: are that we are stewards of the Earth and we have to take some measures to control the overpopulation of these animals. If we don’t, we’ll carelessly lead to problems in their caretaking and leave them too large a population with not enough resources for them.
We don’t steralize ourselves though as we are fully capable of caring for ourselves by ourselves if necessary.

And as history has shown what we thought were facts were actually false, which makes them opinions. So maybe some things we believe today are just opinions. We’ve basically found ourselves where we started.

Where did you get this from? We were talking about if white supremacy was considered a fact back then. I would have to research if it was considered a fact, which it basically was around the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, in America at least.
And if you could save only one? Since your sister is equal to a cat, I presume you’d just flip a coin?
Yup.

And by the way I’m pretty done with this convorsation, we’ve basically just found ourselves back to where we started. It’s just a waste of time to keep going, it’s not going to change anyones opinion on anything.

Seems fair enough. Once it gets to the point where you start making absolutely absurd claims like the one above, it becomes obvious you’re much more interested in saving face than actually learning anything.
