Hello everyone,

As I woke up today, I got a random thought of an economic solution to abortion. Upon further reflection, I’m fairly convinced it will drastically reduce the number of abortions performed here in this country, and if so, could be implemented in other countries as well.

My question is - should I bother sending a ‘‘letter’’ (more like a research paper) to an MP (who is against abortion) and the Prime Minister? I fear that they may not listen to what I have to say, as I’m not part of the “upper-class” nor do I have any important connections.

Please help and offer advice

I suppose there’s no harm in trying although, as you say, it will almost certainly have no impact. Modern democracy is nothing if not a lie.

You do NOT need to be of the “Upper Classes” in order to have a good idea, and any decent politician knows that very well.

There is no country on this earth that is democratic. In order to be actually democratic, every person of the age of reason would be REQUIRED to vote, on ALL issues. It would be totally, and completely, unworkable.

Instead, we have some form of Representative government (unless you live in a dictatorship). Someone is elected to an office, and they represent the people that elected them.

Anyone that thinks that their government is a “Democracy” either has no knowledge of how their government works, or they are simply an ignorant person.

Even Thomas Jefferson, that proponent of the people, abhorred the very concept of a “Democracy”.

It depends on the idea. Although abortion is a tremendous evil, I can imagine several grossly immoral ways of eradicating that practice. These ideas should not be proposed.

On the matter of your socio-economic status, how would your MP know this information, simply from your letter?

I would certainly encourage you to try it. I happen to have a friend who is obsessed with politics and wrote a bunch of letters to (American) politicians he din’t know at all all across the country requesting consideration for an internship. As luck would have it, one senator reponded, met him, and not long there after gave him an internship. Now, this friend of mine has to be the luckiest person I know, and it sometimes annoys me to no end, but at any rate, it’s proof that on occasion, writing a persuasive letter to a politician actually can yield results. So why not try it.
