You can pray as long as you want.
However, it is not necessary to pray for an excessive amount of time, especially if you are a normal lay person who has a job, family responsibilities, etc. and not a hermit or a cloistered religious whose main job is prayer.

Even a short prayer is enough - it is not somehow a better prayer if you spend 3 hours rather than 5 minutes - rather, it’s what’s in your heart that matters.

Since you are a beginner, it’s more important that you pray regularly every day for some short time rather than praying a very long time.
Think of it like spiritual “exercise”. If you were just starting an exercise program, you wouldn’t be working out for 8 hours a day.
You would work out for maybe 15 minutes to start and then perhaps build up over time to a half hour and then to an hour.

I would say if you prayed for like 10 or 15 minutes a day and did it every day, that would be a good way for you to start for now.

Apostles and saints who prayed for a long time were like Olympic athletes, they trained for a long time to get to that point and they made it the central activity of their life, like most of them weren’t also working and looking after kids while they were praying for 8 hours straight.

That s very interesting that s what i normaly am doing but thanks alot for advice

plus another question is am i doing this right i pray lords prayer and others prayer is it ok to do that? like then give your personal prayer etc
does afther my main prayer need to be used lords prayer

and my other problem is this thing in vain and repetition thing confuse me a bit and last thing we can repeat our prayer more that just 1 time our main when we pray for others?

It’s good to say The Lord’s Prayer every day because Jesus himself taught us that prayer. Who wouldn’t want to pray in the words Jesus himself taught? But it’s fine to say other prayers too. And if you somehow forget to say the Lord’s Prayer, that’s okay. You’re not required to say it every time you pray.

If your prayer is sincere, you don’t have to worry about “vain repetitions”. Just know that you get God’s attention even if you only pray once. But you are free to say the prayer more than once. Usually, saying the Our Father or the Hail Mary over and over is supposed to provided a background for meditating on our Lord’s life while you are praying. The prayers being repeated are to get you into a prayerful state of mind. It’s not because you have to repeat it 10 times in order for God to hear you.

“Vain repetitions” referred to pagans who thought they had to repeat a prayer many times, or for a whole day, for the prayer to be heard by their God or to “work”. They treated the prayer like a magic spell, like if you say it 100 times it will work, but only 99 times it won’t work. This is wrong and Jesus warned against it. He didn’t mean you can never repeat a prayer for other reasons, like maybe you were repeating a prayer to help yourself meditate, or maybe you just liked the prayer so you said it more than once.

If you are looking for some books to help you get started, I think this is a good one to read about prayer:

https://www.amazon.com/Prayer-Beginners-Peter-Kreeft/dp/0898707757/

And a book like this is a good one to use in prayer:

https://www.amazon.com/Every-Day-Gift-Frederick-Shroeder/dp/1937913031/

There are many books like this. This one just has a Scripture verse, a quote from a saint, and a brief prayer for every day of the year. It’s just a quick, easy way to focus our mind on God for 5 minutes. It makes a great starting point if you’re just getting used to praying regularly.

Why wouldn’t it? 🤔

(If you don’t mind my asking 🙂)

Just check the Catholic bookstores where you live. They probably have some similar books with Scripture and daily reflections. There are lots of such books and I’m sure you can get one from a store.

taugh to pray at home just at church otherwise when i was at shcool we whould pray but otherwise nope but when i whould go to grandma i there whould sadly but at least i now know its improtant to pray at home to

I hope that you understand me and since this site is about such stuff i hoped someone will explain me more detailed some things actually helped me so thank you all and no i dont need enymore since i now learned

I have never looked upon prayer as quantity vs. quality.
I believe the quality of a person’s prayer is the key thing.
Like going to confession, is it more important to confess sins and to state your sorry over having committed those sins, or to confess the number of times you have committed a specific sin? I believe that confessing a sin and being remorseful are more important.
Quality of prayer over quantity.

“Pray without ceasing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17

What this means is that our minds are directed toward God, who dwells within, whenever we are consciously aware.

Many use the Jesus prayer and repeat it often and whenever they become consciously aware of their presence.

“Lord Jesus Christ Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner.”

Prayer is a state of being more than the recited words. We place ourselves in God’s presence, which is in the present moment.

When you mentioned this verse i learned something about this in article that we can pray like for example you feel tired or you feel angry so on etc and tell that in prayer

and that where we stoped we can go from there and another thing is should we also pray to get also holy spirit because many priest says that alot we should pray for it to because prayer sometimes is nothing withoud that is that true?

As so as you become aware of thoughts coming into your head, let them go and say a prayer

Even just saying “Lord Jesus,” is prayer. But let it be from the very center of your being, which is where God dwells.

Pray always ,its not necessary to always sit in the church and pray ,but in our day to day life in spirit ,to be mindful of God and talk to him about our feelings praise him in our activities as he is close to us in our hearts Ephesians 6:18 18 Pray in the Spirit at all times in every prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert and always persevere in supplication for all the saints.

The Holy Spirit helps us to pray when we are not able Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words.

Out of the basic 3 types of prayers namely, adoration, thanks giving and asking for favours which type of prayer you mean?If adoration, you can opt to recite some well known prayers at some fixed time.Tell silently “My Jesus,my mother Mary” when ever possible even during work.It is a prayer. Thanks giving prayer for any particular matter need be said only once, but general thanksgiving prayer may be made at the end of each the day.Prayer for favours: Continue without stopping till it is received or till you feel that it has been answered indirectly.Jesus has said the example of the need for praying incessantly for favours.
