With all that has gone on this weekend with the Pope I have reached a decision about my life. I have had a rough past but I have asked for God’s healing love and forgiveness. I have been able to overcome the sins that controlled my life with God’s help through grace. I have come to truly love Jesus through the Eucharist. I have also come to embrace the wonderful sacrament of Confession. I have been asked by many priests if I had considered the priesthood. For the last three years I have been praying and contemplating entering this vocation. I came to Notre Dame to find out what God has planned for me. This year I have found little joy in my business major. Instead I enjoy Mass, Confession, Adoration, and the Liturgy of the Hours much more. My parents are devout Catholics, but they haven’t been too supportive whenever I bring up this topic. I will finish what I started and complete my Accountancy degree. However, after this weekend I know for sure God is calling me to become a priest and serve his people. I will enter the seminary after I graduate in the Spring of 2006. When I become a priest I will try my best to lead God’s flock to the Truth and help those in need.
 
My spiritual director, an Opus Dei priest, worked alongside St Josemaria Escriva many years ago and whilst he was a young man. He told St Josemaria, " I want to be a priest. " St Josemaria never said anything. A few days later the Saint pulled him aside and quietly said, " Its a noble thing you’re doing. Answering God’s call like that. " I say the same to you. I will keep you in my prayers.
 
God bless you ND Mike! I am in a similar boat. I am awaiting a canonical transfer of rites from Roman to Maronite. The only thing that would hold up my transfer is the issue of priestly ordination. Apparently there may be a block to ordination after one switches rites. However, I trust in God and while I feel called to the Maronite Catholic Church, I will not pass up on my call to the priesthood and so would make the great sacrifice out of obedience to the Church and would not complete the canonical transfer. It means that much to me to answer His call to the priesthood.

My father, who left the family and is a lapsed and even a minor anti-Catholic and his brother were not pleased with my decision either. My mom, however, is very supportive, as are most of her family. My friends on the other hand all left me. Well, except for one and she supports me all the way. She even said she had a feeling even back when we were “involved” – the weird thing there is that she is not much of a Catholic, she snubs her nose at all of the social teachings, except for those towards the poor. I’ve known her since I was in the seventh grade and I am 32 now. Aside from my brother and sister she is the only friend I now have. I went from many to very few.

Don’t read into the silence of your parents too much. It might be that they are simply shocked. Give them time. I will keep you in my prayers brother. What route do you think you are called? Secular priesthood? Or an ordered priesthood?
 
Dear friend

I thank God for your call and that you are willing to give Him your personal fiat!

If you don’t mind I am going to keep your Vocation in my prayers.

May Mother Mary be ever with you. Please do not be afraid of anything or any obstacle that crops up to deter you, remain calm, remain in the Presence of God and remain with our Mother Mary and God will lead you exactly to where you are meant to be in service of Him and His people.

Well I come from a well off family and when I was choosing my major all I could think about was how rich I was going to be. Now I realize money isn’t that important to me. I’d much rather live a simple life. I feel my calling is to priest of the Fransican Order. I love going to Marytown, The Shrine of St. Maximilian Kolbe, when I’m back home.
 
Your post brought joy to my heart ND Mike. God bless you in your decision to serve God and His Church in the humble Franciscan life. I pray that the love and mercy of Christ will always surround you. And may our Blessed Mother always keep you in her care! I will be praying for you. :tiphat:

What a great day it is for you! I have felt a call too, and I believe it is to be a Deacon…my priest said I will have to wait till my boy turns 18 to think about the priest hood…I think Deacon will fit me better though, since I love the idea of a good wife and many children…

I definitely don’t think your accounting degree will be wasted. You will likely be able to use your skills to the benefit of your order.

(Speaking of the Pope, I’m currently in the middle of his book Gift and Mystery, which he wrote about his own vocation and early years as a priest. I’m finding it very inspiring and a good read, and if you haven’t already discovered it, I highly recommend it.)

Mike, I understand your decision to not pursue money and wordly things. You cannot force such a decision, it comes from God I think. It would be my advice for you to join an Order. The Franciscans have a wide and deep ministry. Of the three priesta that influenced me, one was a Franciscan. Yea St. Francis! The Holy Cross Fathers may deserve a look too.
 
Bless your heart! I could say more about following your heart and listening to the Holy Spirit and all that, but mostly I just love the sincerity of your words and your desire to serve God’s people. He will surely bless you.

Yes, you can either enter the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest or the Fraternal Society of St. Peter. Both priestly societies are dedicated solely to the Missal of 1962. However, it is difficult to enter either society. They have a rigorous entrance process. Additionally, they are forced to turn away good candidates each year due to lack of space at their seminaries.

I would encourage you, however, if you fail to enter either of these societies, to consider the diocesan priesthood. Our dioceses are in desparate need of good, orthodox priests to lead the faithful.

I understand that many parishes are in need ot good financial guidance. Perhaps you’ve been guided from the beginning. 🙂
