I have finally made my choice --and my peace – to go ahead with my move to Canada with my Fiancé.

Yes, we’re in a Same-Sex relationship, yes we plan on Marrying civilly.

However, I also intend to remain celibate, to the best of my ability…

What say CAF?

What does the CAF say? The same thing that the Church says. “Same-sex marriage”: 1. is a lie, 2. is a scandal, 3. is a near occasion of sin.

Of course, you are free to follow your conscience.

I’m not sure what type of response you are expecting/hoping for. I’d be more concerned with what your priest says and what the Church teaches than the responses of anonymous internet posters. 🤷

You are putting yourself in a near occasion for sin, especially if your friend does not share your faith. Is there a reason for continuing to use the term fiance? Is the intent to have a civil marriage for legal purposes but to avoid sex? If you truly do manage to stay chaste, be wary of giving scandal to other Christians.

I do wish you the best of luck and happiness in your journey of faith, and the fortitude and temperance you’ll need going forward that will draw you closer to Christ. And I hope that, whatever comes, Christians will remember your dignity as a person even should they stand opposed to some of your choices.

A civil marriage between two people of the same gender is an illusion, not a marriage. A marriage does not exist in such a situation.

Also, are you saying that an unmarried person who engages in regular promiscuous sexual behavior can accurately be called “celibate”?

Amen!

I don’t thank anyone can condone moving to Canada, it’s just not done!
The migration is one way, right? Canadians moving south to become entertainment, right?
/sarc

I meant to say they move south to make their fame in entertainment, not be entertainment. I’m no long surprised when I discover an actor/musician has their roots from CAN. Something up there gets the creative juices flowing I guess.

Congratulations! I pray that you have a wonderful married life and show others that love does not discriminate!👍

Are you Catholic, OP? Choosing to get civilly married in a same-sex “marriage” is a clear violation of natural law and contrary to the established teachings of the church. Doing so puts the state of your soul in jeopardy. I say this not to judge you personally, but I am stating this as being the teaching of the church. The choices that you make are your own. I pray that you either reconsider or find your way back to God after going through with this decision.

What motivates the decision to civilly marry?

I think you are wrong here. God does not approve of same-sex marriage. He instituted marriage as being between one man and one woman.

It makes not one difference what any one thinks about marriage equality in the States since it is provided for by the Equal Protection Clause and a done issue. I guess not living in a theocracy is awesome for 90% of people and quite upsetting for 10%.

I’m sure that will fly with the Almighty when we stand before Him. Telling him right and wrong are not based on Him alone, but what is convenient for society.

Are you trying to be satirical? This is just about the dumbest thing I’ve heard in a long time, and there is a wealth of dumb things being said every day competing for that title. Do you sincerely hold up the Equal Protection Clause to be the highest authority over humanity? Do you think that Roe v. Wade makes abortion a “done issue”?

Or am I missing some subtle sarcasm in your statement?
