Has she read Rome Sweet Home? It might make her feel better to read what Kimberly Hahn went through. It’s sometimes nice to know that you are not alone.
I second that!
Your story reminds me of Scott Hahn’s and it seems that your wife just like Kimberly Hahn. 🙂

Did I miss something?

How did you get Confirmed without having your marriage validated in the Church? (Just tell me to MYOB, if it’s none of my business.)

And CONGRATULATIONS on being restored to the Fullness of Christ’s Church. 👍
JM, I recently discussed this with my priest and he said that while technically you are correct, there is something in Canon Law known as a “Pastor’s call”. This apparently gives him the ability to use his good judgement when diverting from the strict letter of the law. Yes, we still haven’t had our marriage convalidated, but we are working in that direction.
Just wanted to let you know.

God bless you and I keep you in my prayer!

Prayers with you.

I’d suggest posting your situation in the Ask and Apologist area. While I’m no expert, I’ve never heard of a Canon Law “Pastor’s Call”.

It seems like a very odd situation. I have never heard of such a thing either, although I have heard of people not realizing it was a serious situation, and going ahead anyway - an example of such a case was presented at a seminar that I attended one time.

What they told us in the seminar is that in this case, although the person has already received the ceremony, and the ceremony will not be repeated, God will confer the actual graces of the Confirmation on him at the same moment that he gets right with God and the Church in his situation.

This is one reason why it is better to delay the ceremony, so that the ceremony and the graces that come from it can all happen at the same time. Also, it must be rather traumatic for yourself, to be both brought into the Church and excommunicated, all in the same moment.

You have my prayers.

I was going to suggest this book also. Kimberly reaction to Scott is what makes me love the book.

Did i miss something? They got married in a methodist church. ISn’t their marriage considered vaild but not yet a sacramental marriage?

I don’t think Dr. Scott Hahn’s marriage was blessed before he got his first communion and his confirmation.

Edit: oopps just saw that he was catholic and left the faith and then got married…my bad…

Not only that, if they are both baptized Christians, I believe they are married sacramentally. I could be wrong, but I don’t think so…it’s just that Protestants don’t realize it’s a sacrament, but it still is.

Could somebody please set me straight if I’m wrong. 🙂 Thanks!
