I haven't seen the video--why go back to being Catholic?

I don’t want to offend any overly religious zealots out there but I have a genuine problem. I currently am not any religion. And I got into a debate with my father-in-law (first mistake) because a nephew of his changed from Catholic to Christian (I believe you call us Protestants) and had the audacity to invite him to church! My in- laws are hard core Catholics and the whole family (2nd cousins and all) are upset. The guy made the mistake of saying that when he was Catholic he was a druggie, alcholic wife beater. he went to prison and vowed to change his life when he got out. He did! But he changed to Christianity and is a completely different person. I being the only non-Catholic defended the guys invitation but to no avail and now I feel something…not sure what but…like maybe I was wrong. But I keep thinking and thinking and I still see the cousins point. If that is how he was as a Catholic why would anyone want him to go back?

Hi,

I would agree with you if he had been a druggie and alcoholic wife beater BECAUSE he was a Catholic. I hardly think that this was the case. It is very good that he finally discovered the good news of Christianity and got his act together. But I would just suggest to him that IF the origin of Christianity is found in the largest Christian Church known as the Catholic Church and IF it has always been unified and consistent in its interpretation of Scripture, I would say it bears looking into. He needs to look at the Christian Church that he never really knew.
