Hi guys,

My name is AJ and I just became a member of this fine forum. I’ve already read through a few different sections on the forum and have found some pretty interesting conversations!

I go to Ohio State University and hope to graduate in the Spring of 2009. I’m finally getting close to the end! Thank God.

Anyway, I really like this one Catholic news site and just thought that I would share an article that I found on it today. It’s about the celebration of the Mass of Blessed John XXIII. If you’re interested in checking it out, here’s the site address:

This is my first post on here, and I look forward to many more. Thanks guys. I hope everyone has a very blessed weekend. Peace be with you.

Welcome to the forums AJ! God bless! 👍

Welcome to the forums, AJ!! 👋

My father graduated from Ohio State University in 1928…👍

Thanks NMJenny! OSU is a good college, and I feel quite fortunate to be a student of it. What was your dad’s major?

From your link
"Careful observance of papal events and statements over the past few months, provides a number of clues that the Holy See might indeed be leading up to such an observance of the pre-Vatican II liturgy. Over the past year, we have seen the return of Roman style vestments, the usage of the winter and Easter mozzetta, the revival of the ancient pallium, and rochets coming out of liturgical closets all over the world. It seems only logical that Benedict through his new liturgist is staging the return of some sort of papal celebration of the pre-Vatican II rite.

One clear indication of the papal inclination towards the traditional liturgy is the reemergence of the usage of Cardinal-Deacons at papal Masses. In addition to the Deacons of the Word and the Deacons of the Eucharist, Benedict has multiple times recently drafted Cardinal-Deacons to flank him at liturgical celebrations. **This is a welcome restoration of papal pomp and ceremony. When one starts to understand the historical nature of various papal ceremonies, the ancient heritage of Catholicism is appreciated by the observation of how we indeed offer solemn prayer. **
There is also speculation that the Holy Father has initiated new sets of vestments for papal ceremonies that will include the Roman form of chasubles, dalmatics and tunics. While there should be no expectation that the **Papal tiara will come out of retirement, **such revival of historical signs and symbols of our Catholic liturgical history are long overdue and very welcome. "

Amen! And let us pray that the Papal tiara will come out of retirement.!

I certainly hope the papal tiara doesn’t come out of retirement.
As lovely looking as it is, there are people dying of starvation in the world, the last thing we need is people backlashing that the Vatican is hording riches, and they maybe right on that matter.

Sitting with a silver tiara and 10 jewels on your head isn’t helping the faith, and would be better of melted and the proceeds donated to the poor or some other charitable cause.

With all due respect, I believe that Judas said as much concerning the oil which was applied to the feet of Christ. 😦

Fairly liberal opinion there Harmony. Should we also throw the shroud and the Lanciano monstrance on eBay while we’re at it ?
I’m sure they would bring more than the melted tiara.

On second thought, how about this. Let’s talk Mahony into selling his cathedral to one of those protestant mega congregations, and donating the money to one of the traditional seminaries 👍

😛

AJ, he was an electrical engineer, and actually went on to work on a small team that developed the first prototype of the fax machine! It was used during World War II to send arial photographs from Europe back to the States for analysis. Alas, because it was developed on company time, the patents all belonged to Western Union… 😃

Let’s try to be charitable. Harmony expressed an opinion, and a perfectly valid one. There is a huge difference between the Tiara and objects such as the Shroud and the Lanciano Monstrance. The latter are directed to the glory of God; the former seems to be more about honoring a man. You’re free to disagree, but calling someone names won’t help.
