This show was about the communion of Saints and Mary Faith Factory.

This is what it said:

"Mary was appointed by God to defeat the devil. Also “Mary would crush the head of the serpent.”

Then they say they don’t teach idolitry.

But in Genesis it says:
And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring [a] and hers;
he will crush ** your head,
and you will strike his heel."
**
And Romans says this

15But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! 16Again, the gift of God is not like the result of the one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. 17For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
So who does what? I’m begining to think Mary slowly taking over Jesus’ titles in the RCC.

"Mary was appointed by God to defeat the devil. Also “Mary would crush the head of the serpent.”
St Michael is also appointed by God to defeat the devil.
O glorious prince St. Michael, chief and commander of the heavenly hosts, guardian of souls, vanquisher of rebel spirits, servant in the house of the Divine King and our admirable conductor, you who shine with excellence and superhuman virtue deliver us from all evil, who turn to you with confidence and enable us by your gracious protection to serve God more and more faithfully every day.

Pray for us, O glorious St. Michael, Prince of the Church of Jesus Christ, that we may be made worthy of His promises. Almighty and Everlasting God, Who, by a prodigy of goodness and a merciful desire for the salvation of all men, has appointed the most glorious Archangel St. Michael Prince of Your Church, make us worthy, we ask You, to be delivered from all our enemies, that none of them may harass us at the hour of death, but that we may be conducted by him into Your Presence. This we ask through the merits of Jesus Christ Our Lord.
Amen.

It means you have little faith in God and literally infuse and confuse EWTN’s message with non-Catholic opinions of Mary - in the worst possible way.

The reason for the He/She depending on the translation.
I’m not sure I understand. The Genesis account is obviously indicating Eve’s off spring. Look even Mel Gibson understood it was a prophesy about Jesus. Not Mary herself.

I believe the Latin Vulgate translated it as “she will crush your head, and you will strike his heel” That’s what adstrinity is referring to.

**Not in the Vulgate, which is based on an older Hebrew text than the Masoretic, which was not stabilized until 1100 AD or so.

And if you’re going to accuse people of idolatry, at least spell it correctly!****

I’m a very poor speller. So I make no excusses other than I hope you know what I mean.

Look out Pope Benedict!!! Mel Gibson has the new market on infallibility!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Seriously though… here is the passage you’re in a tizzy about? THIS is what proves Catholics have been worshipping Mary all along???

And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring [a] and hers;
he will crush ** your head,
and you will strike his heel."

This passage is talking about Mary AND Christ…as the new Adam, and the new Eve.

There will be enmity between you and the woman (Mary)
He will crush your head (Christ)

You cannot separate Mary from her son, period. Christ attoned for original sin, as the new Adam…And Mary, also defeated the devil when she said YES to God, where Eve had said No. :)**

I can agree Mary is a model of obedience. I have a problem with titles associated with Jesus being passed on to her.

What title associated with Jesus? And what evidence is there that whichever ‘title’ is reserved to Him alone?

As has been pointed out, St Michael has also been appointed by God as a crusher, in a special way, of Satan.

Not to mention that we ALL, in the small victories over sin that we (hopefully) experience every day with God’s help, in effect crush the Devil’s head, no?

Mary also did so, and did so in a particular way by co-operating in the Incarnation with her ‘yes’ to the angel.

You’re being silly. That is not the verse I’m saying that Catholics have been worshiping Mary all along with. In fact, I will go so far as to say currently with the catachism there is not a worship of Mary though I believe I may have some divergence about perpetual virginity more so than Immaculate consieved. My consern is that you everyday average catholic does worship Mary. And that the Catholic Church doesn’t really say or do anything about it because they don’t want to get to the point of denying Theotokos. I’m saying these catholics on EWTN teaching against Idolatry seem to put Mary in Place of Jesus which is AntiChrist. Anti-Christ in the ancient greek view was “another Christ” or a replacement for Christ. Giving titles that are Jesus to his mother (Redeemer, Mediatrix, I wonder at Immaculate - because Jesus was also sinless - Gate of Heaven). I agree she is a model of obedience. But people worship apparitions. You can not convince me they don’t. It goes beyond devotion for many Catholics. As I’ve mentioned before a lady I work with thinks Christ is a sinner because he’s human but Mary is immaculately concieved. These are my issues.

You cannot judge the hearts of Catholics who hold pious devotion to Mary though… Are there Catholics who take it “too far” In their hearts? Maybe… Have I met any? No. Have I heard of any… maybe once in my life and it was only speculation. Again…Only God knows their hearts:)
Code:
But you are also assuming that honoring and devoting yourself to the blessed Mother is detracting from devotion to Christ..and as many have pointed out, it is impossible to have a relationship with one and NOT the other. Mary and Jesus are always tied together, they point to one another always.

You could probably look at my personal prayer and devotion life, and assume I'm one of those "average catholics who seem to worship mary.." I LOVE the Blessed Mother! I pray often, and I love to visit her garden and pray in front of her statue. I turn my pro life intentions to her, and I commit my family to her.
But that phrase itself is terribly offensive. Are you assuming that Catholics who live a more simple life of devotion…who come before our mother as little children, without great knowledge of theology or the catechism are “worshipping” mary because they don’t “know” the difference? I envy in some ways, the faithful catholics who remain steadfast in their devotion to Mary, the church, the eucharist, and prayer…without ever having to “explain away” or defend in detail the “ins and outs” of these practices to people who just don’t understand them. The “average catholic” is an inspiration to me! Because the “average catholic” is practicing straight from their heart:)
I'm sorry if this appears as Mary worship to you, but that doesn't change what the church teaches. Our devotion to Mary exists to DEEPEN our devotion to her son. I have never felt more close to Jesus, than when I began sharing my devotion with His mother.

I don’t mean to offend. This is something I’m really struggling with regards to if I ever return to the RCC. Here is a point on that same episode that they made about idolatry. Where do you spend most of your time and money. From what I see, on Mary. look My family is Catholic. I was raised Catholic. We celebrated la Purísima on December 7th. Everything that my grandmother and other family members were about is the virgin. Droves (I mean droves not one or two) of people go to see an oil slick resembling the Madonna. You go to Spain and people give money and food to the statues of Mary much like the Buddhist do in Asia. I can see praying the Hail Mary but their are other prayers to Mary that call her Redemtrix even though the Catholic Church doesn’t claim to teach that. But they don’t teach against it either. Fatima, Lourdes don’t bother me as much as these other things but I think over time Christ will be replaced if this continues. Devotion and honor are one thing replacing titles is another Gate of Heaven (Jesus:“I am the Gate” also “no man may go to the father but by Me”) Your logic works in reverse as well. You can’t have one with out the other? Well that means in your context that devotion to mary is devotion to Jesus. I can also mean that Jesus points to Mary. How long before some catholics will go so far as to say Mary is homoosious with the son? Its not as big a leap as you think. She is already compared to the Ark of the First Covenant. Which became the seat of God and God’s presesnce. The snake that was lifted up to cure Isreal became a god to them and they used it for idolatry. No matter how honorable the initial intent it at some point replaced God. You see my consern? It really bothers me this thing.

My consern is that you everyday average catholic does worship Mary.
No, you’re wrong. Your everyday average Catholic is not catechized well enough to worship anybody.
Droves (I mean droves not one or two) of people go to see an oil slick resembling the Madonna. You go to Spain and people give money and food to the statues of Mary much like the Buddhist do in Asia.
Those are individuals doing that against the Church. The Church does not teach this and the Church does not approve what all people see as legitimate aparitions. In effect, those people are going against the Church who do this.

If you’re going to love Mary, love Mary, but do not judge what others do concerning your love of Mary.

Also, She is Co-Redemtrix. Not Redemtrix. Co. She could not redeem by Herself.

Christ has not been replaced in 2000 years in the Church, in the Church, He is there. If some Catholics say that Mary is homoosious with Her Son, those are some Catholics, not the Church, and not you, should you ever come back.
